  1. Hello. Hoping for some help here. When you apply imiquimod cream, do you wash it off in the morning? And also my gynae told me to apply Vaseline to rest of area not affected, but will that affect the imiquimod cream effectiveness? Thank you.
  • Hi I'm sorry I won't be much help as I haven't had this particular treatment (I've a different type of cancer) Whilst waiting for someone to reply here why not give the Macmillan Support Helpline , freephone no. shown below, and speak to a nurse - they should be able to advise.

Hope you get sorted, hugs, B xx

  • Hi

Unfortunately I am not able to answer your questions as I do not have experience with this treatment. I wanted to comment though as it will bump your post back to the top, where I hope someone with experience may see it. As suggested in a previous comment you could try the Macmillan support line. They are lovely and have a wealth of knowledge so they should be able to answer your questions.

I wish you the best of luck.

  • Hi I have used imiquimod or Aldara cream now for about 6 months to treat extra mammary Paget’s disease which is a sort of skin cancer or pre cancer of my vulva. I put a tiny amount on the area to treat with a cotton bud to get it fairly accurate. Then I sometimes put aquafor cream which is like Vaseline on the area around it. Often I don’t put it on though because the imiquimod does nothing to the good skin. It only reacts where there are Paget’s cells. When it reacts, at least with me, it goes red and swollen. It sometimes aches and stings and isn’t pleasant. This can go on for a few days but it is reassuring because it means the imiquimod is working. I take a couple of ibuprofen overnight to help sleep when I’m applying it. And I also use intillagel which has lidocaine in it if it is painful but only need that every so often. The good thing is that it seems to be getting rid of the Paget’s cells and I now have areas which are clear.

  • Ps Yes, I wash it off in the shower in the morning.
