I am curious as to whether anyone else has had an abscess in the clit /hood area. Mine has recurred 3 times now. The first time it bled on its own and in late Nov had to have an emergency incision and drainage. (Awful surgery BTW). It never seemed to fully heal and now appears to be recurring again. Dr for 5 years changing practices and can’t do the excision now - trying to get in to see a new one.

Really awful timing, am very concerned re underlying cause and is very painful. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Accountmom, I did not realize you were going through this when I replied to your post.  I have not experienced this but it must be very painful.  Hope you can get a new surgeon and have it removed soon and successfully this time and it does not return.  Good luck!  Keep us posted.

Thanks Oct18. Finally have surgery scheduled for mid Feb. found a new dr I like and she is having my prior one assist, which is great. MRI came back good - no other issues besides the abscess / VIN 3 we already knew about. Very relieved no lymph node issues and no spread anywhere else. However, both docs agreed I need a radical partial Vulvectomy that will involve clit / hood removal plus some of labia. No plastic surgery though. Still very nervous as this is far more invasive than any of my several prior wide local excisions. In a lot of pain and so really ready to just get it done, start recovering and make sure there is no cancer / negative margins. Would appreciate any suggestions for after care after radical Vulvectomy. Am familiar with all of the usual  stuff for a WLE. Thanks all

    Hi Accountantmom,

I am glad you have found another physician that will be able to help you.  Great news that it is contained and not in the lymph nodes. Such a relief for you.  I have only had the WLE so I am not able to help you with advice on the radical partial only help support you emotionally. But I am sure there is someone on here that can help.  I would be nervous too but also I am sure you are anxious to get some relief.  Please keep me posted. I will be praying for a great outcome for you!

    Sincerely

Oct 2018- just checking in to let you know surgery went ok early this week.  Ended up losing all my clit but that wasn’t unexpected. Also ended up staying 3 nights in hospital on full bed rest and now 10 days at home with the same, although I can at least shower/ use the restroom.  Is going to take a while to recover but they didn’t have to do anything on lymph nodes. Am waiting on path report, which will hopefully show clear margins. Keep your fingers crossed...,,

As I will be doing almost nothing for the next  10 days,  let me know if anyone has questions!!

    Best wishes to all

    HI Accountantmom,

I am so glad you let me know how you are doing.  I was wondering how your surgery went and if you did get some relief. I was planning to give you some time to rest after your surgery  before I checked in. Sounds like you had a rough time after surgery with having to stay and now being on bed rest.  Did the physician say why You need to be on complete bed rest? I am so sorry you had to loose your clit. And that you had to go through the surgery. This beast is so damaging physically and emotionally.  I have my fingers and toes crossed that your pathology report comes back with negative margins!.  Like many of the brave ladies here you have been through way more than your share.  I have my fingers and toes crossed for me as well that this does not return, trying to keep it positive but sometimes it gets overwhelming.  Please keep in touch

Thank you for your kind words!  It was actually ok to be in hospital a bit longer- I was well taken care of , not in pain and better prepared to come home. My prior doc assisted my new doc with the surgery and he knows how hard it is for me to not push myself at all and so I think they wanted to be very careful with my sutures. Complete bed rest should do it!!  As this was my third surgery since October, they are doing everything they can to have it be my last.

God bless - hope things go well with you too!  Will let everyone know once I get the final results and am back from leave.

    Take care!

Accountantmom, thinking of you and praying your healing process goes well. When my clitoris was removed I had to stay four days in the hospital too. Just the other ladies know, this surgery is a huge surgery and you have to be so very careful on any movement. Catheter, drain tubes and bedpans, and tremendous swelling.

Keep resting, try not to look down there too much because it can looks so scary. I remember crying for hours when I first looked and thought, I look like Frankenstein what did I let them do to me. It will heal and you will be able to have intercourse again. I remember my mother in law saying, "honey, it looks good now that the swelling is gone, it looks like they just zipped you right up." it did too, looked like a zipper was put in. LOL

I will tell you though, that area is probably the weirdest of all my surgeries because of all of the nerves that had to be cut. They are active still, I still get itchy there and have even asked my doctor if she is sure she got it all. Of course she did, my PET scans show its all gone, its just that darn nerve pain. Still to this day, if I do too much, that entire area will still swell up. Just keep that in mind if you are healing well and you begin to feel pain or more swelling, try an icepack.

You've been so brave and I know how big this surgery is my warrior friend. Take care of yourself and rest as much as you can.
