Hello,

I am 28 and in December I attended my GP in December with a painful lumpy section of my right Vulva that has been getting bigger, know it is getting bigger as it now sticks outside of the vaginal lips and rubs when I walk.

It had been causing me pain on and off when washing in the shower for example for about a year but was getting more frequent. The GP gave me antibiotics and said to come back if it hasn't gone away. It hasn't.

In January there were no appointments at the docs and I was told they would call me, they never did.

Between taking my Uncle to this throat cancer radiotherapy and now Covid I haven’t been able to get another doctor app / opinion.

I will go to the doctor when able to hopefully soon however I wanted to ask what other peoples symptoms and what any limps they found looked like. I am more curious than freaking out.

My lump is like a scrunched up ball of skin that is the normal vulva colour but has a harder smaller very painful lump inside. That specific section gets very itchy sometimes but nowhere else. Ot also feels as if the skin in that area is thicker.

I have no STD or urinary track problems in the past (and have never had sex so I don’t know where I would have picked on up if that were the case)

Has anyone else had a similar lump in an area of the vulva that feels thicker but hasn’t changed colour?

  • Hello Keia, Sorry you are experiencing these symptoms. I too had similar symptoms last year, I went to my GP cos I had a lump that itched like mad, especially after having a wash or shower and it would bleed slightly if I scratched it. My GP prescribed some cream to put on it but it didn't help . After 2 weeks I went back, by this time the lump had got bigger but it hadn't changed colour. She immediately said she would make an appointment for me at the local hospital, which she did online for a few days later. After a biopsy and scans I was diagnosed as having vulval cancer and last August I had a total vulvectomy with the removal of the lymph nodes as the right side of the groin had a lump similar to a hernia Feel so much better now. I suggest that you phone the Dr's again and stress that it is urgent , I know it is a difficult time for everyone at the moment but these things shouldn't be ignored and it is for your own peace of mind as well. Hope everything goes okay.

    Hello Tufty1954

Thank you for your reply, I have spoken to a doctor on the phone who clearly had not read my notes from my previous visit as she insisted on it being a Bartholins Cyst even though the doctor who had examined me said my lump was far to high up to be one!

Eventually argued my point for her to agree for me to get an ultrasound, but also continued to state if the lump grows a head or releases puss to cancel the ultrasound and come back for another round of anti-biotics. I pointed out they had no effect and the lump has increased over a year so we shall see how it goes from there.

But for anyone who is having problems getting doctors to take them seriously without examinations during Covid or any time keep pushing because you know yourself better than these doctors!

  • Hello Keia,

I am so glad that you have spoken to a Doctor and that she has agreed for you to have an ultrasound done, then you will know one way or the other what it is, as you say you know your body better than a Doctor. I must admit I was a bit scared when I had my biopsy and ultrasound done and they confirmed that it was vulval cancer but I had a very understanding consultant/surgeon at the UCH in London and she talked me through everything that she was going to do regarding the operation. I had the operation on the Thursday and I was home on the Sunday and last October I had 35 sessions of daily radiotherapy and weekly chemotherapy and I haven't looked back since. So keep thinking positive Keia at least soon you will know one way or the other - let's hope you don't have to wait too long for your ultrasound. Take care.
