I am 58 years old and had a vulvar lesion biopsy and colposcopy 10/2018 which came back as Vin3. I underwent partial vulvectomy on 12/06/18 for 2 separate areas. I am anxiously awaiting the pathology reports. Since I have been dealing with severe dysplasia since my early twenties. FIrst cervical and now vulvar. The recovery has been slow and complicated by pain management issues and severe itching/burning and stabbing pain. I am really worried since my gyn oncologist assured me that the itching etc would be relieved with surgery. I am new to this site and have attempted to research this subject on line. I am finding that there is not as much info out there as there is for other cancers. Any support would be greatly appreciated!
You poor thing. I am so very sorry for what you've endured. And nothing's worse than waiting for the pathology results. It's terrible. I can tell you this (having had partial and radical vulvectomies): don't panic about the pain you're now experiencing. Give it more time. Also, regardless of how good or bad the pathology results are, you will be able to get through whatever the future holds. You CAN deal with this. Your doctor will absolutely ensure that you will get through this. The process to get through it is terrible, yes, but take comfort that in the long run you will be okay. I'm so sorry, though, that you have to go through it. You are not alone. We ladies on this site will support you. Hang in there!!!! And keep us posted on how you are. We care.
Thank you so much, Jane. I have been feeling so alone with this since I had not known anyone else who has experienced this. I am keeping up a good front with my family since they are supportive but I do not want them to worry. I am finally starting to feel more like myself the past couple of days and hope I can get back to my normal things soon. How are you doing? I have been reading all the posts from this group and my heart goes out to all the wonderful ladies who are dealing with this. Good luck to all!
Just a little update regarding my pathology report. The report showed vin3 and a small area of invasive cancer. My gyn oncologists assured me she was able to get good clear margins and no further treatment is required at this time. But will be followed every 6 months for a while. So relieved and counting my blessings. I am wishing every lady on this site a Merry CHristmas and hope you all are doing well!
Such good news! I'm so glad for you. My results from my November 7th radical vulvectomy were the same. I'm happy for me, too. My healing is very yukky to look at (I examine myself every other day), so that's a bit upsetting, but I try to be sensible and focus on the fact that everything is going in the right direction, big picture. I'm feeling in less pain every week. I hope the same is true for you. Let's keep posting, and rooting for each other.
Important: every one on this site should be treating themselves to frequent treats and naps this holiday season! We deserve even more, MUCH MORE, than everyone else!!!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.
Hi Jane, Merry CHristmas and Happy New Year! It is wonderful to hear that your results were also great!. I am feeling better each week as well. I developed a post op infection and currently am taking antibiotics. Hope this will take care of that issue. I hear ya as far as how it looks. I first looked at it right after surgery and was totally freaked out with all the swelling. THe swelling has improved but it stilll is not easy to look at but I do so that I can be aware of any changes immediately. Your surgery on NOv 7th is this the first surgery that you have had to indur? If not how long between the surgeries? I am petrified that this will keep coming back and am trying to be diligent in changing to much more healthy habits. WIshing you all the best to continue to heal and feel much better. I would love to continue hearing from you. It is nice to be able to chat with someone who really understands what we are all going through. Love and best wishes to all the wonderful and brave ladies here!
Welcome, Millie53!. I recently joined this group and found it helpful and supportive!
QUESTION: Should I be concerned with increased itching 3 weeks post op or is this the healing process. I plan to call my surgeon tomorrow but was wondering if anyone else has had similiar problem. Also looking for any suggestions on how to manage the itching.
October2018, my guess is that it’s part of your healing process. Healing of the wound and hair growing back. BUT that being said, I’d still call your surgeon just to be sure. Ask surgeon about itchiness control too. Only thing that helps me with itching is clobatasol but I’m quite certain your surgeon would say absolutely not right now.
I hope you get answers and help with itching.

I am nearly 6 weeks post vulvectomy and have 2 patches of itching on what s left. My thoughts are it is possibly part of healing process, in which case fine, but my wider concern is the lichen scelorsus which caused my cancer and the risk of this bit turning cancerous. Is this your worry too?
I am under the impression that cream is a no no for many wks after op, and to be honest I haven't reached for the clobasetol ( or whatever it's called) yet and it's not causing me that much irritation. It s the implications that niggle me. X
Hi, October2018
I have had several times of surgeries for VIN3 so far, and I have had little itchiness post op but it is minor. As others say, it could be the healing process too. VIN3 area has more itchiness(and pain) than post op to me. As you mentioned, I guess your VIN causes HPV? I also started cervix first, then to vagina, then vulva. I do not do anything for itchiness. I know it drives me nuts! I hope your itchiness will go away soon. Best wishes
