Hello I'm 57 recent triple neg diagnosis, lumpectomy & removal of 2/3 lymph nodes (precaution) booked for 2 Dec. probable chemo & radio to follow, which I am dreading more than the op. I have breast implants & wondered if anyone else in my shoes?

    Hi Rose,

Happy New year!! Hope you had a good one! We went out for a nice meal and then home to bring in the new year. Didn’t quite make it to midnight Joy

How are you doing? Any news on your treatment?

Had my meeting on Thursday and should be starting chemo in 2 weeks time!

    Sending big hug xx

  • Hi Tanyabg yes I’ve had my 2nd EC and have my 3rd tomorrow.  You’re on the same treatment plan as me but I’m having 3 cycles of PC over three weeks not nine.  I hope that’s more doable than it sounds but glad to get it over with quicker.  Then it’s on to radiotherapy for me, a 5 day intensive course.  Feeling a bit down today can’t really put my finger on why, think it’s just the whole bc thing hitting me all over again.  The EC hasn’t been as bad as I was expecting but I have been quite sick despite the meds but seem to recover by the third day and keep improving after that.  I hope it goes as well as it can for you.  I expect you’ll be starting quite soon now.  Can I ask if you have had any genetic tests? Good luck with everything xx

Hi sorry to hear you have been sickly with the EC hopefully the PC will be kinder to you. No have not had any generic test, did ask at appointment but think because of my age 57 and no family history they said highly unlikely would  come back with anything.
Hopefully will get a date next week, and start the week after. Did you get a picc line put in?

Good luck for tomorrow, just think half way thru! Hope your feeling better soon, I know what you mean been up and down for a few weeks.

sending big hug, you can do this xxx

  • Thank you.   I didn’t have a picc line are you?  I had cannula but it’s been a struggle to get it in particularly last time (6 attempts  and running out of arm space)!! Not persevering with the cold cap this time as my hair is so thin now think it will be better to start with a whole new head of hair and though cold cap was bearable think it will be harder with a lot less hair and at least I will be in and out much more quickly.  I’ve got a reasonable wig and lots of beanies which I wear with the wig usually.
Hope it goes well for you.
    Big hug xx

Sorry to hear this, my veins are not great always have problems getting blood taken. So have asked about a picc or port to start with. They want to try picc 1st and if that doesn’t work will have a port. Shame about the cold cap, but as you say will reduce the treatment time. I am hoping to use one but will have to see how I get on!
Have not looked at wigs yet, but probably a good idea in case cap doesn’t work.

  • Hi Tanyabg Let us know how you get on with your first chemo.  If you’re having EC I was told it was a good idea to suck on crushed ice when the red liquid was going in to prevent mouth sores and I didn’t suffer too much so maybe it worked.  Today I took a frozen ice pop (in a flask) but needed at least two more (much better than plain crushed ice though). If you do get mouth sores Gingigel worked well for me.  I also need quite a lot of paracetamol the next day so I’d say make sure you have some in stock.  Best of luck xx

Hi thanks for all the tips!

Got bloods done yesterday and have a start date of the 5th Feb for chemo. PIcc line being fitted on the 2nd. All feeling real now! Hope your feeling ok after your 3rd EC. Is that your last EC or have you got one more ?

    Sending hug xx

  • Last EC!  I used some anti sickness travel bands this time. I wasn’t sick today so maybe they do work.
    How are you doing Rose?
