Found out today I've had triple negative breast cancer. My oncologist made me feel like I'd been handed a death sentence.  Have never felt so despondent even when I first had my diagnosis.

  • I was diagnosed 3 years ago at age 69 and after mastectomy, chemo and radiotherapy here I am.  Since then  I have been to Australia and New Zealand on holiday climbing Sydney and Auckland harbour bridges. Chemo is hard but doable. You will survive and then lead a great life.

there are many TN survivors out there but we are all busy and rarely post. Stay positive and do your exercises if lymph nodes removed.

  • Your Oncologist shouldn't have made you feel that way.  Non of the doctors or nurses said anything negative to me about being TN.

I was diagnosed in  April last year and got the all clear a week before Christmas. There are lots of people that have got the all clear and now lead really fulfilling lives.

Please don't let one person's negatvity think you're not going to get better.  You will x

  • Hi

Can’t believe how your health professionals have spoken to you ! Sounds like they need re-training ! It’s prompted me to post. I am a 5 and a half year survivor of TNBC. Invasive Ductal carcinoma, mastectomy, 6 x FEC and 20 rads. Apologies for those who have already read my posts before but when I was first diagnosed in 2013 this site was a lifeline to me and reading the survival stories gave me that bit extra fight. I always said I would return the favour and post my survival story one day so here I am ! Like others have said there are lots of survivors but we just don’t always hear about them as they are busy living life to the full !

    Big hugs to everyone x

Thank you so much for your response, it has given me the reassurance I needed. I think my oncologist is just one of those non-fluffy no nonsense types who says it how it is. Hopefully when I go for my appointment before treatment someone will sit down with me and give me the time needed to discuss! X

I am still alive and kicking, had breast cancer twice in last 10 years, told not related, last bout was 3 and 1/2  years ago.just getting on enjoying life and trying not to dwell on what might happen, been to China, nigara falls, just tried sea kayaking and am enjoying being a grandma.

keep away from people that drag you down, however well meaning, enjoy the little things in life as well as the big stuff and be kind to yourself and others xx
