At 30 I was treated for thyroid cancer and it was completely removed. I am on levothyroxine but have struggled with many symptoms associated with high thyroid levels for the last 7 years. Foggy head, upset stomach, low energy, fast resting heart rate and anxiety. I understand a high level of medication is used to suppress unwanted cancer returning. Does anyone have experience of how these unwanted side effects of high levothyroxine can be managed???
Hi Roooo, welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you've been battling surpressed TSH symptoms for so long. With my variant of thyroid cancer it doesn't help to surpress TSH but I have yo-yo'd over the range hypo/hyper since my surgery 18 months ago, so can empathise. I'm now under an experienced Endocrinologist who is helping me. I've also read and researched as much as I can so that when I go into my appointments I am a bit better informed to ask questions.
Are you under the care of an Endocrinologist who's prepared to listen and help you with your symptoms? If not I'd be tempted to ask to be referred to one. 7 years is a long time to remain surpressed, are you considered high risk of recurrence, is that why? Have they said how long you must stay surpressed? Hopefully your Endo is looking at regular free T3 and free T4 tests aswell as TSH.
I hope someone who has more experience of this replies soon and can give you some more help. Take care.
