I was diagnosed with papillary TC at end of September and had a total thyroidectomy at the end of November. The biopsy shows that the cancer hadn’t spread to lymph nodes but confirmed that the cancer isn’t papillary but is actually Poorly Differentiated TC, what also came to light is that less than 1% of the cells were anaplastic but were in the centre of the thyroid. Obviously there are positives (no spread and sub 1% for the ATC).
I have my first oncology appointment tomorrow morning so I will know more after that but there is so little information about PDTC I’m struggling to remain positive and understand the likelihood of a positive outcome, I just can’t find any info about treatment when anaplastic is caught early.
Does anyone have any experience io anything similar or where to find any helpful information about PDTC?
Thank you
Hi ElleB, I'm sorry to hear you are going through this.
I saw that you hadn't had a reply so hopefully by replying to you it will bump your post to the top and you may get some helpful replies. There's alot of experienced people on the forum but of course they may not be checking in over Christmas.
Unfortunately I can't help as I have Medullary TC.
I hope you got some answers from the oncology appointment you had.
Best wishes x

There's a very wide spectrum between highly differentiated and undifferentiated - and it's unclear where you sit along that line. But, if the doctors got it out without seeing any spread, I'd say don't worry overly about precisely what you HAD because it's been removed.
PDTC can include a wide range of subvarients. I have one of them and 13 years later all's fine and dandy.
Best wishes
Barbara

I can point you to a facebook forum for Poorly Differentiated Thyroid Cancer, sorry not allowed to give a link on here but you should be able to find it. It is an American forum but lots of British people too and from other parts of the world. I have poorly differentiated cells in my lung (Papillary Cancer) and 60% Tall Cell Variant. Lots of difference experiences shared and information.
