Hi I have recently been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and got my op on 27th July feeling a bit nervous about it and the recovery as have read you can ve very tired, they are having to remove the lymph nodules as well so not sure if this makes the recovery longer.
Thanks
Hi Betty
When they take out the lymph nodes they call it a neck dissection and it does make it a bigger operation than just having the thyroid removed, they say two weeks but it took me a lot longer to feel normal.
Be super kind to yourself and don't expect too much for a good month, my voice was quite badly affected and I lived off soup for a good few weeks.
Just had the other half of my thyroid removed last week and another neck dissection and it seems easier this time but I am still staggering around like frankenstein. It's not too painful but very uncomfortable.
Sending positive vibes
Vicky
