I  had papillary  thyroid cancer  and left  lymph  node  removed  in  last year  july  2022  and  had RAI in  Septemeber  2022..   Everything been going  good  etc..  And the  new year   came and  started not  feeling to  good.. And started getting  pain and  swollen on side of  my neck  called my  GP and etc.. It  was phone  call and  said they  wanted to see me face to face ..  So went  and   they were concerned also because of  my history,  So they  order  bloodwork  of  my TSH and  urgent  ultrasound..

Had the ultrasound  done but  before that  called my cancer  place  too  to  give an update  etc  and they wanted to  see me  as my  appt with wasnt unitl  June  and they  didnt want me to  wait unitil than..  Well the ultrasound  showed  that  here we go  again  the  left   lymph  node  is   very  enlarge  and  doesnt  look  to  good..   Went to the  cancer place  and  they havent  received the results  yet.  so littlle bit  frustrated with that  they said they would have it before i went to  my appt with them..  But  anyway  told the  consultant  what the  ultrasound  showed  etc.  and  they  said  they wanted  another ultrasond and  biospy..

Was wondering  if that  has happen to anyone  else  etc..  And if so  what  has  happened etc..  What i am  really wondering  as  they  couldnt  do the  biospy  the  last time  o n the lymph node because  it was  close to the juggler  vein.. I  dont  know where this  lymph node  the  exact  place  i have the termnology  for it but  cant place it lol..

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I can't help with your questions but noticed that you hadn't had any replies to your post yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be easier to spot.

I'm sure that someone from the group will pop along soon to help you.

  • Hi Tbomb,

i was diagnosed with papillary cancer in August last year and had a TT and left neck dissection because the cancer had spread to my lymph nodes.  My operation was in November last year.  I was told that one of the tumours had attached itself to my carotid artery and although it had not invaded it, were unable to completely remove it and left a little bump of it still attached. Removing it completely would have cBaused me to bleed out.  My consultant says that RAI that I received in January will hopefully deal with the residual bit that is attached. Pray

Not sure if you will find this helpful but just thought I would share it just in case.  Can I just wish you all the best going forward.

    Best wishes

  • Thank  you  Casey..  It helps  and  what  you went thorough  finding things out  the  same.. Especially what is going on  now.. But i am one of the annoying patients  i  am pest  and  keep  everyone  informed.. As i have  found  out that the communication not  very  good  among  other   consulatants  etc..So  I   am  passing info etc,,  and  get  copies of  scans  etc  take  with  me..

The one thing  i cant  get  my  head  around  that  some of  gp and  consulatants  cant access your  records from  other  hosptials  etc..

Well  go  for  the  biospy  on  the  7th of  Feburary  and   will see what  it  shows.. Since the thyroid is all gone  and left  node  ..  so  am confused  that there is another one  now..

  • I had TT last July and had central and neck dissection, had my RAI just before Xmas.  I found another lymph node on the same side as my dissection and had an Ultrasound a couple of weeks ago and was told there was nothing to worry about.  Not sure about that because I can definitely feel it moving around and am worried about it, will wait for my Oncologist appointment on 14 Feb and mention it again.  It doesn't feel any different to the original lymph node that I needed a biopsy on and had 60 removed in all, with 14 being cancerous, so why is this one any different is what I am thinking.  Hope you get a good result from your Ultrasound @TBOMB, it is a worry while we have to wait for them.  I haven't had any details in writing or an appointment following mine, I was just told by the lady who did the US that there was nothing to worry about.

  • Hi Petal66

I know how you are feeling. You can read my story in my profile. I had the all clear in November after my TT and RAI in May last year. Recently had swelling where my lymph nodes were removed. This happened shortly after original surgery but after being checked- they said there was nothing to worry about. So same swelling in same side again but specialist nurse didn’t seem overly concerned. Being very anxious doesn’t help! Also going in for knee surgery on Monday so at least that will take my mind off other things! See my oncologist in May but will keep an eye on swelling. Take care and hope all goes well xx

  • You do have to get used to all sorts of bumps and bulges after dissection @Dexx and my thyroid area after RAI has been swollen but not too badly, which is hopefully the iodine doing it's job.  Best wishes for your knee surgery, bet you are sick of operations too, I didn't expect to need another one on my vocal cords and just assumed I would need speech therapy, but hey ho, it is what it is.  So sorry  to read in your profile that they also discovered you have a heart murmur, have you had to have any treatment for that as well?

  • Good luck with the  knee  surgey   Petal...xxx

Well  i  am  scheduled for the biospy  7th  so  just the waiting  game  ..  arghh  hate the waiting game lol..  The  snail  can move  faster  than the time lol..

Again  thank  it helps  that what  everyone  else is going thorough and  not  alone  etc.

  • Casey thank you   yes it  is very thoughtful and helpful...

It is  a  sneaky  thing  if hides  in  corners and than  it  appears when it wants to..

Hopefully the  residual  will  completely gone for you ...

    Best  wishes,

  • Hi Petal66. No treatment needed for heart murmur but was still a shock when they told me! Since I hit 60 everything seemed to have happened! Anyways, after the knee op I do not want any more surgeryRelaxedRelaxedJoy Still working but def thinking of retiring this year. Life is for living as they always say xx

  • It's Dexx who is having knee surgery @TBOMB, I am waiting for vocal cord surgery though lol
