Anyone else feeling that their endocrinologist is just a numbers guy?

So I've had issues past year with knee and since November my arm muscle, research is telling me with my history is thyroid cancer and being on thyroid suppression therapy that it could be caused by my TSH. So it says I should speak with endocrinologist as could be muscle wastage/atrophy, I rang my CNS who said to ring and bring appointment forward which I did and saw him today, seems he just cares that my TSH is ok right now even though when these issues started it wasn't! Anyways I debated my way into getting him to order an creatine kinase blood test to make sure which he did but he saying it's probably frozen shoulder.

I also have been having a sore throat but not in my throat as it doesn't hurt to eat etc and my voice has been going weak after using it at work the next day I've got what sounds like a sore throat without it, sounds weird I know, anyways he asked when I last had an US which I haven't had one with him. So he ordered one to check but surely he should checked my Thyroid antibodies etc? Grrr

  • Hi

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

It does sound as if you're being messed around so perhaps having a chat to PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) at your hospital might help. Part of their job is to resolve problems when you're using the NHS.

I hope you get answers soon.

  • Hi I saw endocrinologist in December as still have problem with calcium. After blood tests I was discharged and had 1 reduction of calcium tablets and calcium went back down gp wrote back to endocrinologist for advice all endo wrote back just saying go back to 2 tablets, I have blood test tomorrow. My tsh was 2.64 endocrinologist said it was fine. I

I've had knee problem since a few few weeks after thyroidectomy, I mentioned it to endo but she just dismissed it said nothing to do with it. I'm currently doing physio exercises, bending down still a problem as knee gets stiff and achy my knee was fine before thyroidectomy. My thyroidectomy was in 2024. Still have not been told much about the calcium problem or weather its permanent, but I guess it is. The problem is if blood test ok gp will just write no further action, I still get odd tingle and twitching even in normal range but gp said I can't get symptoms but I read you can. So gp or endo not great at monitoring these connections.
