Scar after thyroid operation

Hi.

I had my left side of my thyroid out in Dec 24 due to papillary cancer and the right side in January 25 for precaution and then in July 25 I had RAI treatment. It is now over a year since the operation and sometimes my scar, although isn't very noticeable, feels a bit tight especially first thing in the morning. Was just wondering if anyone else had had this happen.

Thank you

  • I was advised to moisturise and do regular neck stretches by after care team

  • The Dr told me to put Bio Oil on which I did and still do when it feels tight but no one mentioned neck stretches to me.

  • Neck stretching excersises are a must, but only when you can do them without pain. Gentle massaging of the scar can help. It doesn't have to be expensive moisturiser or oil, seriously how scar will look is mostly genetics. I hope you feel better now x

  • Hi.

I also had the right side of my Thyroid out in Dec 24 due to Papillary cancer and left side out in Jan 25 for precaution . My RAI was in July 25 as well. I wasn't given any exercises to do but they did advise me to put Bio-oil on my scar. Sometimes it does still feel tight so I tend to still put it on when this happens.
