i am awaiting RAI treatment but have been told that there currently a 6 week wait because of a world wide shortage of the medication. As anyone else been told this or heard this?
Hi.
I've heard that from members of a thyroid cancer group on a popular platform (cannot mention the name as it will be removed) . Some are also waiting for dates.
But it is fine to have RAI up to 6 months after surgery so still plenty of time left.
Take care xx
I had my RAI treatment cancelled for the 7th Dec, but was able to have it on the 21st Dec. I was told the reason was that a Nuclear Reactor in Europe had broken down and the pills are a biproduct of the reactor, they had fixed the problem and the pills were being made but didn't pass a Quality Control check, hence my first treatment being cancelled. When I was in hospital before Xmas I was told they were anticipating having more problems and the Dosimetrist said it was lucky that I had been able to have mine when I did. I hope the problem is resolved soon @Cassey and you can have your treatment.
I’ve had my treatment cancelled twice since November due to this production issue. Third attempt booked for next week - right on the six month period following surgery. No idea what will happen if cancelled again. Anxious times.
This is same info I was give. For mine being cancelled
Hi Butterly23,
So sorry to hear that you have had 2 cancellations and hoping and praying that it will go ahead very soon. I had my thyroid out in November and also a left neck dissection. Keeping my fingers crossed for no cancellations.
For those who have had the RAI therapy just wondered how you found the experience. Being totally on my own for 3 days and night is going to be a lot for me as I don’t do alone time very well. Any tips? How did you fill the time?
Any suggestions will be appreciated?
Cassey,
I was concerned about the same thing but as a single mum I’ve decided to binge watch stuff I can’t usually get to watch in peace and catch up on sleep and peace! Sure it won’t be as easy as that but that’s what I’m trying to have in my head!
fingers and toes crossed for you too. Get yourself some books and take in a device that can access things to stream. Cosy clothes all the way!
