Hi all, at long last had my radioiodine treatment just before Xmas, I seem to have my taste buds altered due to radiation iodine, coffee tastes disgusting, turkey tastes soggy wet lol, curry tasted like nothing I can discribe haha hope its short term, got to have double dose again in 4 months, love to all Tomo xxx

  • Hi Tomo

I bet you’re glad to get that over with. My taste altered too, especially sweet things, it lasted about 6 weeks then all was back to normal.

  • Hi Marg, I have also been very tired I sleep alot, 8 hope your treatment works for you love to all Tomo xxx

  • I was glad that it only changed for a few days for me.

    How are you doing??

  • Hi not sure if message was for me or Tomo?
I’m ok physically, still up and down emotionally but I guess it’s to be expected. How are you?

  •   it was for you both

I'm so so... I have had a partial, then total thyroidectomy.  Had my RAI in July. Full body scan was clear afterwards.  Just had 3 month follow up ct and it has shown that I have nodules appeared in both of my lungs. I have to wait 8 weeks before a repeat of the ct, to see what the nodules are doing.  They intimated, that with my type of thyroid cancer, it will more than likely metastisised thyroid cancer.

    I am gutted

  • Oh I’m so sorry you’ve had bad news. Your journey sounds similar to mine - I had RAI in July after a hemi then total thyroidectomy. What type of thyroid cancer do you have?

  • Hi... I had poorly differentiated thyroid cancer

  • I don’t know much about that type, mine is different, but I hope your next scan goes better.  8 weeks is a long time to wait when you’re worried, are you able to keep yourself busy with work etc? Sending a big hug

  • Hi Rock diva, yes I have lung mets and also windpipe, and in larynx had one vocal cord removed as well as all my thyroid and 7 lymph nodes , just gotta be grateful and enjoy life while you can ,love to all Tomo xxxx

  • Had my RAI too, came home on the 23rd December, and pleased to get it out of the way.  Sorry to hear it has affected your tastebuds @Tomo, it hasn't mine yet, but I realise it can do.  I already lost my sense of smell  around 15 years ago due to nasal polyps and had 5 operations to remove them over the years, so really don't want to lose my taste buds too, but a price we have to pay to get rid of cancer.  Hope you are feeling ok, I had a couple of days feeling a bit nauseous after returning home but no side effects while in hospital, and I was given tablets to help with the nausea which wasn't too bad and didn't stop me eating my Xmas Dinner.  The worse part was waiting for transport home as I had to wait 7 1/2 hours and eventually they got me a lift in an ambulance.  I was thinking I would be in hospital over Xmas otherwise.
