Hi everyone,
I'm new to this group. I was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer a few days ago and I'm 18 weeks pregnant. I went from planning my babies arrival to now being unsure about what's happening around me.
I am having surgery in October for a full Thyroidectomy as my windpipe is being affected causing difficulty to breathe or getting extremely short of breath.
I've been trying to understand and reading up but I tend to overthink a lot which doesn't help as every pain I feel at the moment I'm investigating.
Just hearing the doctor say the C word I was just so shocked.
Hello congratulations on your pregnancy ,is et first time you expecting and do you know what your having, is quite exiting news .I am diagnosed of papillary thyroid cancer 3 months ago ,even when I heard the doctor told me I got C quite shocked , end up in big big tears I remember. Now I am one month past surgery. Please don’t wary everything is going be OK , keep been positive keep strong and if you always need someone to talk to you can ,right on this group and keep talking to your nurse if you have questions, they so helpful . Xx
Thank you for the encouragement, I am staying positive and thinking positive. This is my second baby my first I had 10 years ago then struggled to get pregnant again afterwards so I gave up on the idea so was just shocked when I found out I was pregnant thought it was just a little miracle. My partner and I were so excited. I had covid back in Jan and since then I noticed my breathing was never right again. I spoke to the doctor and they gave me an inhaler but it didn't do much so I kept pushing now 9 months on im being diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer.
Hi, my story is very similar to yours ..
I had the cancer whilst I was pregnant , but I didnt know about it. Just got diagnosed last month. I did too contract covid in late March this year ( 7 m pregnant at that point) and spent 2 weeks in ICU, whilst in ICU I have lost my voice ( now knowing it was caused by the thyroid tumour that was pressing on my voice box) my breathing never came back to normal so I opted for a c section. When the lump kept growing and my voice wasnt improving I kept pushing for more tests rather than being told it was long covid and it did result in having a thyroid cancer diagnosis.
two points to reassure u
1. The baby is absolutely fine, healthy and strong
2. My voice and breathing did improve massively after the full removal of thyroid.
have u had the surgery now? How r u feeling ?
