Does anyone know if thyroid cancer patients are eligible for a NHS flu jab?

  • Hi

Here's a link to the NHS website which lists who, and what conditions, automatically entitle you to a free flu jab.

  • I was recommended to get a flu jab after my thyroid was removed, especially for the first year or two. I've continued to get it every year. The main reason - as explained by my consultant - was that nobody needs anything else to make them feel crappy after surgery than they already have. Depending on the time of year of surgery (my ops were in November and December), all that coughing and sneezing can put a lot of pressure on your scar.

The NHS are widening the criteria for free jabs this year to include over 50s for the first time. I have no idea if that helps. Local pharmacies are already offering jabs for around £10 to £15 if your GP won't oblige or would make you wait a long time. My employers are going to give us all free jabs but not until mid November which feels way too late for me.

    Best wishes

  • Hi

I was told the other day by my GP that because I’m back in active treatment, I’m eligible for it. I’m not sure if that’s the blanket rule though. I’d ask your GP.

    Hope that helps a little.
