New to group and think I've had my head buried in the sand. Taking a day off work today to reflect. Scan complete and suspicious lump found in thyroid and appointment held with ENT, scan and biopsy booked for Tuesday and results 30th September. Scary and long 3 weeks ahead. Tell myself to put it all to the back of my mind but so hard to do this, any advise x
Hi Island123,
Waiting really is the pits isn't it?
If you can find something to distract you that's the best. At least you've normally still got work to focus on. You might try looking at Ethelmay's thread Anxiety buster in the Kidney cancer group. There are a number of things listed there.
Hey there Island,
Welcome to the group, though I'm sorry your worries have brought you here.
The good news is that over 90% of thyroid nodules turn out to be benign. They're a very common thing, and especially like to pop up in hormonal times like puberty, pregnancy, and the menopause. So the odds are in your favour that it's nothing to be concerned about.
If you're OK taking paracetemol and Ibuprofen, make sure you've got some in the house for Tuesday and Wednesday as it can ache a bit after an FNA.
As for coping mentally, I like the facts so I know what I might be looking at. So like the one above, another is that if it is thyroid cancer, then the survival rate is 99%. The treatment for it is also targeted, with minimal side effects. So if you've got any scary chemo cancer patient visions in your head, you can throw them out straight away.
Now is the time to give the garden a good fettle after summer. Clear out that forgotten and unloved cupboard or shed. Rearrange the kitchen. Redecorate a room. Go out with friends and family for giggles, good food, and some drinks. Go for coffee and a cake with folks on a whim. Whatever you need to do to take your mind out of whichever dark corridors it's drifting down, back to the fun things in life.

I have no medical training, everything I post is an opinion or educated guess. It is not medical advice.
What a wonderful answer Lass. Much more helpful than mine!
Thanks
Things seem to have gone from you will get an appointment through the post for this and that to everything happening fast but seeming slow if that makes sense. I do have work, could not concentrate yesterday so just taking today then full diary next couple of days.
Distraction is the key
Thank you
Thank you, yes I've read plenty and know the successes so that is one of things I'm getting mad at myself about.
As I say, taking today to reflect and then keep busy, just the waiting game which I'm sure will seem like a short time when it comes to it.
Thank you for advice, do you take paracetamol before and after or just after?
