my tsh levels have rose from 0.08 to 0.53 is this a bad sign it’s nearly two years since having my thyroid removed for papillary thyroid cancer.
Hey Jo,
2 years out, that's probably OK.
They usually like to keep you as close to 0.1 as possible for the first year. If everything looks OK after that year, and you're at a low risk of recurrence, then they can relax the suppression a bit. In some people, they are happy to let the TSH get up to 2.
Out of interest, who did these blood tests? Was it your GP or your consultant? If it was your consultant then all is good. If it was your GP then I'd just ring your consultants secretary or your thyroid nurse if you have one, just to let them know and to find out where they'd like you suppressed to these days.

It was my consultant that asked for the bloods but I’ve been on the same amount of levothyroxine since my op and it’s always been around 0.04-0.08 the only difference is that I’ve lost about 2 and a half stone ( through dieting) but I thought that wouldn’t make a difference to tsh. I have an appointment at the hospital on Thurs but I’m feeling very anxious now as things have been ok so far.
Heya,
Still nothing to be anxious about. Honest.
TSH fluctuates all the time, and weight is definitely a factor in your suppression. However if you have lost weight then I would have expected your TSH to drop further. The bigger you are, the higher the dose you need to get you suppressed and vice versa.
So the other question is, have you changed your routine at all? So the time you take your meds or the breakfast you eatafter, or how long you wait to eat it? Have you started taking any new medications or supplements at all?
Without changing anything, my TSH has gone up and down like a yoyo over the years and the blood tests. No reason why, just my body doing its thing.
