Hi I've been told that there is a risk that levothyroxine can cause cancer cells to come back. I've been in remission from papillary thyroid cancer TB1 since December. My left half of my thyroid is no longer functioning properly and I'm having to take 20 micrograms a day. In the article it said the risk was more prominent in people who were prescribed a lower dosage. Is the information I have read correct?
Hey there Scooby,
I'm not sure what you've read, but I'm going to categorically say that it's wrong.
I take it you had your right side removed and are left with the left, which now needs support? That isn't unheard of at all.
But anyway, there are so many of us on varying doses of thyroxine after having our whole thyroid removed, then folks who have just had half removed and need a boost like yourself, that we'd see a lot more recurrence than we do were it true.
Lass
Xx
