Just a quick hello as I have just found out I have testicular cancer after having a testical removed and check for cancer. Now starting my journey to see if it as spread to other parts of my body. A bit worried as first meeting with urologist said the likeness of cancer is only 1% for my age group so shocked to find out I did have cancer

  • Hi Matt

Sorry about your surgery and now diagnosis of TC.  It is a real shock when the Consultant first tells you..

The waiting is very difficult as those of us in this club are aware.   The system in the UK is generally good and the pathway and timeline for each stage well managed in my experience.  I am assuming you are in the Uk?

Do you mean by the one percent statement that you are an older patient?  No need to answer if you don't wish to but I was classed as older for TC at 56.

    I

    Take care

    TC

  • Hi TC,

    thanks for sending a message.
yes I am slightly younger then you at 51

just a bit shocked with the results today an annoyed at my first urologist.

Basically I was sent to an ultrasound by my GP which was in a different area due to wait times. And when I went to see my urologist he could not access my scan results. So I showed him why was in my NHS app for results. He recommended to remove the testical as of my age and mentioned it’s only a 1 % chance of having cancer. so I agreed to remove it as there was defo an issue and it was swollen and uncomfortable.
but to my suprise today when I got a follow up appointment the new urologist told me when he looked at my scan results he could see I had an issue and after checking the removed one they found cancer, so now I need to have bloods and a CT scan. Bloods already taken today and even got CT scan booking for this Sunday while I was waiting for my bloods to be taken. I just say I am much happier with the guy I saw today and the cancer nurse who also spoke to be about what’s going to happen next.
In just hope it’s not to long for my results to come through and to see my new cancer specialist at the cancer center. Felling a bit worried but all I can do is wait to see

how was your journey with cancer and do you have the all clear now.

  • Hi Matt  sorry I missed your last line Q..

I noticed the size increasing and the weight too.  Saw the GP, had an ultrasound in a few days.  Saw the Urology consultant who used the words.. “ sinister mass”. (Tumour was 37/38mm) While looking in his diary for a surgery date to remove it.  Surgery 2-3 weeks after as I recall.  It was growing more quickly by then.

i went for bloods before surgery but my markers were clear, not unusual I was told.

A couple of weeks later The lab confirmed it was cancerous with an additional risk factor.

CT scan showed no visible to imaging spread elsewhere.

I was passed to Oncology where they talked about the stats for relapse etc.   I was offered and received a cycle of chemo.

I am now in a 5 year surveillance plan.  I think this is fairly standard.  3 monthly bloods and then a contrast CT of hips and abdo and a chest X-ray each year.   I think I shift to 6 month bloods soon at the two year mark.   It’s a routine and you turn up as requested!   I do get a bit anxious in the lead up to the bloods and scans, I guess that’s fairly normal.

Good luck for your next steps..
