Where we're at. Two weeks ago our world was normal life and suddenly this horrendous situation. Our son has had a scan showing a medium tumour,  blood tests normal. He has seen the urologist,  who has hinted  that it possibly may not have spread as no other symtoms. He awaits a CT and removal of said tumour. Pippa Pepper

  • Thank you so much for your message. I am not replying to this by name as worried might be your real name. You have certainly been through it as a family, I am heartened you're son is now well. For us the shock is wearing off now as a reality. We now prime ourselves for each appointment, then the myriad of feelings. We are approaching as positively as possible and focusing on the positives given so far. He in a week has surgery and await the scan date. As a mum I am being positive and calm at all times with him and he can talk about everything with me and has shared all the facts. For me holding it together helps me keep a grip. This site has been a blessing for me. I knew nothing of all of this and I feel the support and the positivity of the men and families going through this and moving forward offers huge hope. Thank you all. PepperP

  • Thank you, I thought it came up with a screen name but I’ve changed it now so all good.

It has been a horrible time and seeing our son look so drained from the chemo and loosing his hair is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone. But it goes and goes quickly so please try not to worry.

I hope your son’s surgery has gone well and he’s recovering quickly. It’s great to hear you’re staying positive, it really helped us and our son coped so well with everything, much better than we expected.

You’ll get through this and come through closer because of it which is something we never thought of. Don’t be afraid to ask for help of family and friends, ours have all rallied round us and taken a lot of strain off us and allowed us to focus on our son and his treatment. Also we will always be grateful to the hospital staff who again have been so good to our son and us. You wouldn’t get better going private.

For us things have returned to normal our son’s hair is coming back to how it was, he’s back to the gym and looking fit and healthy. You will be there soon enough. Love and strength to you Pepper and the family

  • Bless you, it is so kind you have responded to our situation. I am truly pleased to hear you are coming out the other side or your sons TC and that he is regaining his health. Our son had his surgery almost two weeks ago and had very little pain or problems. We are now waiting for biopsy and CT results, the waiting is tough. He is being very stoic and we are aiming for this too. I have found the forum and messages really helpful,it was unknown territory for me and my overriding feeling is of the men moving through this and working back to health inspite of testicular cancer. When we know more I will add to this thread, I think it is useful for others newly diagnosed to get an idea of the approximate path of things. Bless you and I wish you well. Pepper

  • Happy news for us. We had the biopsy results, and the CT scan. It was Seminoma and although medium size, it had not spread. Our son will need a course of cycle of carbplatin. I will say thank you to all on this site, the kindness of strangers and the sharing of people's journeys, I found really helpful. This has been from trip to the doctors to now 6 weeks, it has felt like a life time. Our son has been so blessed,he had a random little symtom or two, back as far as Nov and the lump presenting in Apr. Who could have known that something so innocent prior to the lump, could have been all of this. Anyone new reading this, our sons CT scan didnt happen pre surgery , communications. This was a stress factor during our wait. Then post surgery, a lesser one was done, this also was a stress factor. When you're new to a situation,  you don't know the things you should chase , nor what should happen.

  • Carboplatin,  please can anyone give me an idea of one cycle of this. Is one cycle the same for everyone or does it vary. I mistakenly read all the small print, wish i hadn't. Can anyone tell me please how they found this treatment and how quickly they recovered. How quickly did the immune system kick in post treatment to colds and future things.  Many thanks. Pippa P.

  • Hi pippa

I had 6 cycles of carboplain,  how was his kidney function test. As this helps with recovery if its a high result  Carboplain is quite mild  chemo treatment in my opinion.  I had very few after effects apart from feeling tried .  Just drink plenty of fluids.  Eat well . Testicle cancer follows a route like mines . I was diagnosed in Dec 22 had my testicle removed 27th Dec a few days after I noticed a issue , it came back 12 months later  to the date of first diagnoses.  It had gone to my lynodes in my  back 7.5cm x 5.cm . Retroperitoneal lynodes  I was given 6 cycles of carboplain every 3 weeks . I was fine with this chemo no issues with flu or cold . You just have to be mindfull your insume system is weak but not gone ..

After 3 years of treatment am fine and well , the only change I've made after consultation is I've removed processed food from my diet . As it has cancer making ingredients to give the food shelve life . Buy a book called the China study by 2 professors father and son . Its changed  my life for the better . I've lost 17.5 kgs in 18 weeks by eating better and more healthy  no more processed foods .

Just make sure he drinks plenty of water  daily and he will be fine . Carboplain is a mild chemotherapy.
