Hi there, If you have one testicle removed, does the remaining testicle become bigger?

Has anyone experienced pain in the remaining testicle?

Thank you in advance.

Sorry, about the deleted replies. My phone is playing up.

What I was going to say is that, I have noticed my remaining testicle appears larger. But I think for me, it’s a psychological difference, in that without the other I have no comparison.

I have had no pain in my remaining testicle. I would suggest that if you are worried about it, to speak to a doctor. It may be a common side effect, I don’t know, but I’m always of the opinion that if it’s worrying you - get an expert to set your mind at ease.

    I hope this helps.

  • Thanks again for your reply Editman.

I find the experts quite vague about these operations, they don't seem to give you all the details, not even when asked.

I feel that I'm being a nuisance when asking questions, as the doctors always seem not to have time to answer them.

Never think of yourself as a nuisance. You are always within your rights to ask as many questions as you like, as many times as you like until you get a satisfactory answer. Mental health is just as important as physical, and all the worry and anxiety that can come with a cancer diagnosis shouldn’t be bottled up.

  • I am starting to notice my remaining testicle getting a bit larger. I had the operation back in April. It feels normal though. I do get a very faint, dull and persistent ache in it. It doesn't affect me in any way though. I am weight training quite intensly which might be causing it.

Looking back I get quite annoyed at how much they didn't tell me. It was only on here that I found out it might get bigger.  My surgeon was cagey about talking about prosthetic. He said we could talk about it on the day of the surgery, and he did, but he was blatantly trying to talk me out of it. I'm actually glad he did as I'm comfortable with the way everything feels and looks without it. A bit more discussion earlier would have been better though.

I don't think I have a problem with testosterone levels, but I struggle to get them to talk about that either. Fortunately I do have private health insurance that I can use for TRT if I have to. Up to this stage everything was NHS. Level of care was great up to the point when I left the hospital after having chemo at which point I felt a bit deserted.

  • Hi Teahupo, thank you for your reply.

I agree about the doctors being cagey about things, they just don't tell us the important things that we should know.

They tell us not to read the internet, but we wouldn't need to read the internet if they actually explained about these procedures themselves.

    Hello Chip5,

I hope you are doing well.

I have been experiencing a soreness / light discomfort in my left (only one) testicle for the last 5 days and have been scheduled for Scan and blood tests for Monday the 21. I didn't hesitate at all in reaching out to the hospitals cancer emergency line to let them know of what i am experiencing.

I really hope you are doing well by now.

    Best Wishes,

    Spyros
