Hello all
I am new here!
My name is Anna and am 32 years old. I joined as I keep worrying about my digestive issues.
Bit of background on my health, about 8 years ago I had been diagnosed with Gastrisis (
Had sharp and dull like pains in my upper abdomen that would come and go due to infection caused by H.Pylori. had been prescribed antibiotics and Pylori had gone.
I felt better and quite good for some time until the symptoms returned and still persist until now. I have been tested for pylori and coeliac disease but they came back normal. Had all my blood test etc and all normal. Now an awaiting an appointment at GI clinic.
I having sharp and dull pains in upper abdomen after I've had a meal and they can last even a few days. I get bloated and neausous and lack appetite. Symptoms come and go.
The reason I'm sharing my situation is because I keep worrying about what it might be that's causing me to feel unwell and why do I keep getting flare ups if the bacteria had been eradicated.
Can it be ulcers ? Or something worse ? :(
How different are stomach cancer symptoms from other digestive issues ? Did anyone on this forum got diagnosed with stomach cancer before ? What were your symptoms?
I know I shouldnt be thinking so negatively but I can't help it. Thank you all so much for your help x
I had similar symptoms in upper left abdomen, was also treated for H Pylori. Another reason the doctors suggested for these symptoms is diverticulitis. Not sure if your symptoms fit, but worth checking.
Fundamentally the best answer can be provided with endoscopy, hopefully after your appointment you’ll get one.
Best of luck.
Hi Anna,
I had similar symptoms reflux and upper abdominal pain but it was only very mild. I just knew in my mind something was wrong and I actually thought I had pancreatic cancer as a close friend died from this so I was already anxious, so effectively she saved my life because I probably wouldn’t have pushed my GP as hard as I did for tests.
I went for an endoscopy and was told i had h pylori and i had a small what looked like an ulcer that had nearly completely healed. I went back for a repeat endoscopy 6 weeks later to check and see if it had gone and it was still there and unfortunately a biopsy revealed signet ring cell adenocarcinoma but it was caught very early and ended up being stage 1A.
This isn’t to scare you, but I’m only 29 and I’ve seen so many people with h pylori develop stomach cancer so I would absolutely urge you to get this checked via an endoscopy as if it’s caught early it’s extremely curable like over >95%.
Ive also seen people that have had there h pylori “treated” a number of years ago but due to the inflammatory changes it causes in the stomach lining they actually still developed stomach cancer a number of years later, there’s was also caught early.
Theres a specific strain called the Cag-A strain which is particularly troublesome.
please push for a gastroscopy. I do hope it’s absolutely nothing and just something like a hiatal hernia (I also had one of these)
Thank you for your message.
I have been referred to a GI doctor but have to wait for the clinic to call me with an appointment.
About 7 years ago I was having very mild pains in upper abdomen, no other symptoms so I wrnt and had endoscopy done privately but not in the UK. I went and had it done in Poland. They've found H Pylori and treated it they haven't found anything else really and said it's gastritis caused by the bacteria.
I've been having the same symptoms like before but they seemed to intensified.
I do hope it's nothing bad, I can't wait to have my appointment and to know what it is, I just wanna feel better.
Anna
I remember how nervous I was before I had the endoscopy. The surgeon advised me to take sedation and so I really don’t remember anything!
You would need someone to go you as you can’t drive afterwards if you have sedation.
This stage is just so hard! However the tests take you one step forward to finding out what is causing the problem! It may be nothing serious as your symptoms can be caused by something other than cancer! But if it is cancer, then it’s been found and there will be a treatment plan!
Good luck!
Jac
