Wel my chemo start tomorrow, it’s been a challenging time these last couple of months, although they can’t cure my cancer I’m hoping the can contain it, does anyone have any help with possibly side effects

  • In our hospital the nurses gave several useful leaflets on day 1 of chemo, hopefully you get them too.

Main things - neuropathy in hands and fingers, you may need to avoid touching cold things. Mouth hygiene - get a soft toothbrush and brush/floss after every meal, as otherwise can lead to thrush and mouth sores.

They should give you some tablets to control nausea between the cycles.

The main side effect seems to be general weakness and loss of energy, so be kind to yourself. Best of luck.

  • Thank you so much for this information I really appreciate it

  • Well first infusion completed today, only effect is I can’t touch anything cold or I get pins and needles sensations in my fingers, hope it only lasts a few days

  • I am about to start my 3rd chemo cycle. The side effects with the 1st cycle were not too bad but became worse with the 2nd cycle.  Weakness and tiredness have been big issues for me so make sure you rest / sleep as your body requires, don't fight it.

A good tip is to ensure you take all the medication supplied even if you don't think you need it as it can be too late for it to be effective.

I have bad mouth ulcers but the chemo unit supplied me with mouthwash to help.   So ask for help and additional medications as soon as you need them.

    Good luck
