Hello fellow people that have the invisible enemy attacking our bodies. Over a year ago now, I was diagnosed with Stomach Cancer, a type ii tumour on the junction. A year ago, I had a major 10.5 hour operation to remove the tumour, and some lymph nodes they found during operation. The operation removed part of the feed tube, and the stomach, roated it, pulled it up under the chest, reconnected it, rebuilt digestive system. Over a year later, i am still undergoing treatment. My world was turned upside down last week, as the company I work for, have now stopped paying me in full and placed me on the SSP. I knew this day would come, but not now, I lost my Father to Pancreatic Cancer, My brother a heart attack after CV jabs. My last Aunt on Sunday, due to blood clots. My mother moved into a care home. My Wife does not work, mine was/is only income. I had to go to Job Centre to validate myself for Universal Credit. They were very helpful on the phone, not what I had expected. Outcome was, that I was able to verify my identity over the phone, after telliong them about the meds I am on etc..
This was not meant to happen. I assumed, after operation, maybe three to four months and I would be recovering quickly. Sadly for me, it is not to be. I am in a mess, and I reached out to McMillan's, I have donated most of my life, putting cash in the pot at the hospital etc.. You never think it will be you, you never think that the very people you are helping to support, would be helping you.
Honestly, they are wonderful, they have helped me so much, I can never thank them enough. Applying for UC and PIP and Council Tax deductions and OMG my head hurts material. All those things are now in process. I do not know what to expect, what to do any more. I do not know if anyone can tell me ? Guide me ? But if you are going through the same, just remember, you, WE, are not alone.
God has his plans,
Love, Light, Peace to one and all
I am really sorry to hear what a truly difficult time you are having. It’s good that Macmillan were able to help you to access the benefits you need as financial worries add to your stress. This Forum is a great source of support as so many people are going through similar experiences.
I found Maggie’s Centres provided great support, if you have one near you. If you live in Scotland, Cancer Support Scotland provide a range of support to help emotional well-being of those affected by cancer.
You clearly have your faith to help you through these dark days. Sometimes it’s just about the little things to bring a little light in the darkness! Sitting in the sunshine, going for a walk if you are able…
Take care!
Jac
Hi, sorry to hear about your diagnosis! That’s so good that you’ve had support from Macmillan with your finances.
A member of the benefits department in the north of Scotland has been a good help for me as my sick pay has just ended so now have a SSP1 now, so I’ve just applied for a ESA with the department of work and pensions. Fingers crossed I get something!!
I’ve just started my last lot of FLOT (10th) after my TG in April and I’m the same as you as when will I return to work.
Hoping all goes well for you!!
Michele
