Hi
My mum is having chemo for stomach cancer.
I believe it's oxaliplatin
She has been told to wear gloves when getting anything out of the fridge.
Does anyone know how long she has to do this for ? Is it just a few days after chemo or longer ?
Hi
I found it worse for the first few days but it got longer as the number of cycles of chemo progressed. Cold drinks were another thing to avoid for a couple of days. So I drank herbal tea or warm diluted juice.
It will be easier as it’s the summer as the cold air caused me discomfort as I had chemo through the winter.
Others may have different experiences but for me it was manageable.
Hope your mum copes well!
Jac
Hi, it’s to help with cold sensitivity, which can be caused by Oxaliplatin, which can cause neuropathy, tingling in the hands and feet, I used to ask people to get things out of the fridge about 1/2 an hour before I needed it, I tried to avoid going into the fridge as much as possible, if not I would wear gloves. Might not be too bad given the current temperatures but mine was over the winter months and I felt it in my legs as well when outside. It is mostly temporary, I would advise to try and keep away from the fridge if possible but if not she needs to remember that things out of the fridge are still cold, hope she gets on alright, please ask any other questions you might have
