Metastasis preventing Operation on Stomach Cancer

Hi Guys,

I was diagnosed with my stomach oesophageal cancer June 24. I was scanned before starting Chemo and it was found there was some metastasis to my liver, although only very small. The outcome was no op because of the spread but regime of Chemo which was Oxaliplatin for 6 rounds. I found that pretty brutal particularly for the first week after the treatment, after that it calmed down.

My questions are to do with neuropathy, particularly in my feet, if feels like a heaviness, burning numbness going on, some days worse than others. I also have it in my hands and fingers however I can cope with that. Does anyone have the same issues with their feet? I am having to look at loose or mesh top shoes etc, anyone any thoughts. My consultant has prescribed 30mg of Duloxetine which was doubled to 60mg daily about 4-5 weeks ago, I have probably seen an improvement with my hands but its the feet causing me most concern. Any guidance greatly appreciated.

  • Hi

Sorry to hear you are still suffering from neuropathy.  I know that others have had the same problem so hopefully they will be able to offer some help.  It can get better over time but unfortunately there’s no guarantee.  It’s good that you are getting treatment and hopefully that will help.

It can get suffered with it, when I first had chemo for bowel cancer and it did get better. Although I still get numbness when it’s very cold.  For that reason, I was given a different chemo when I had treatment for stomach cancer.
    Hope things improve for you!
