Hi, I am looking for some advice/help. My dad currently has stage 4 gastric cancer with peritoneal metastasis. We were told it couldn't be cured, but could have palliative chemotherapy to prolong his life. He has since started XELOX, with iv given every 21 days and tablets to be taken twice a day.
We recently found out he has a DPD deficiency so his treatment has to be reduced. He's now worried that the treatment won't work with a reduced amount of therapy, is this the case?
He is also currently suffering from pain in his groin which doesn't seem to be going away. Has anyone else suffered from this? Any help/advice would be very much appreciated, Thank you.
I am so sorry to hear about your dad. Chemotherapy is very hard and they do sometimes reduce the dose, as they would rather you stayed on treatment if possible. Unfortunately there’s no way of knowing how successful any treatment is going to be. It might be worth letting the team looking after him about the pain in his groin, especially if he’s suffering discomfort.
The only other advice I can give, is to do all the things that make him happy, sharing all the love you have for him!
Take care
Jac
