Can anyone tell me if they had any trouble with a picc line
I was given a PICC as it meant I could start Chemo the following week.
however I developed complications which resulted in blot clots in my shoulder and arm plus sepsis and had PICC removed between chemo session 2 and 3.
I had it removed and switched to a Portacath in my chest, which I kept to the end of Chemo session 8 and during stomach removal after chemo4.
Portacath was brilliant, could shower and even swim without issue.
what was odd was that the port was only used for chemo and not for taking blood tests.

Hi, I only had a picc line, but I know a few that had a port, apparently only a few nurses etc are trained to take bloods from ports/picc lines so they are only used for chemo. I went into hospital after my 3rd chemo due to dehydration and no one wanted to use the picc line, much to my Macmillan nurse’s surprise.
Take care
Michele
