Mothers Stage 4 journey - 2nd line chemo

Hi all,

My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer (Linitis Plastica) in July, however, she had been suffering symptoms since March. She started on FOLFOX intraveneously in August and was dropped from 100% to 80% after the first dose, due to high toxicity. In September, we switched to our local hospital and dropped again to 60% and continued on a tablet form, instead of the pump. After 4no doses, mom had a CT scan and it showed the disease was stable. Unfortunately, last week, mom was admitted to hospital with a blockage to her kidney, which has resulted in us realising the disease has now started to progress again. This means we are now starting a 2nd line chemo today (Docetaxel), which again will be delivered at 80%, every three weeks.

We have been given little confidence by our consultant for the 2nd line chemo, as they are stating the disease must be aggressive as it has advanced over the last 4 or 5 weeks.

When mom was back in hospital with the blocked kidney, we managed to get further biopsies and have paid privtely for a full panel of genetic testing, which we hope may bring up some further options to halt this disease.

Has anyone else had a similar experience and had any success from the 2nd line chemo?

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read that your mum's cancer has started to progress and it must be a very difficult time for you all.

I don't have the experience you're looking for but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll hopefully be spotted by someone who does have the right experience.

Wishing you and your mum all the best
