Hi everyone, I got diagnosed 2 weeks ago with stomach cancer. At first they said chemo and operation but yesterday was told they couldn’t operate as it had spread to near lymph nodes. I have been told I can have chemo but a different one to the one I was due to start. I am 47 and have a young daughter. They have said that I have maybe a year to 18 months. Has anyone tried any other treatment or had the chemo and the cancer has shrunk. Thank you xx
Hi Sunflower1973 and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to read that you've just been diagnosed with stomach cancer and, while I didn't have the same type of cancer as you, I know what a difficult time this will be for you.
I don't have any experience with treatment for stomach cancer but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Replying to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussions list where it'll have more chance of being seen by someone with the right experience.
It would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi Sunflower,
You may wish to ask precisely which lymph nodes mean they consider you inoperable? It is true that there are some nodes that are inoperable but there are certain nodes that some surgeons may not have the skill to remove but others do. Depending on which nodes, it could be worth seeking a second surgical (rather an oncology) opinion.
Let us know how you go,

Hi, after your advice I am having a second opinion at the Royal Marsden in London. Thank you so much. I have found out my oncologist specialises in breast and gynaecology so all seems strange. The surgeon who wanted to operate is a upper gi surgeon but the MDT decided against it, one being my oncologist! Fingers crossed that they give me a second opinion and decide to operate.
That's great news - I really hope it works out for you. I'm sending you a PM, so look out for it!
