Hi everyone
Joined as my dad was diagnosed with T4 N1 M0 gastric adenocarcinoma at the end of last year. He’s had 2 of 4 rounds of FLOT with the plan being a partial gastrectomy however his 3rd round has been delayed as he’s not coping with either the chemo or worsening symptoms, I’m not sure which.
He’s been sick most days the last 20 days but a lot of this seems to be the pain meds which are continually being changed but all with same outcome. He’s has increasing stomach pain despite the meds. My question being is this a normal side effect of the chemo or does it signify the cancer is getting worse and the chemo isn’t working? Has anyone any experience of this? We were expecting the sickness, neuropathy etc but was told the stomach pain should ease and appetite improve but it all seems to be getting worse.
He doesn’t eat, completely tube fed, and mentally not dealing well with things.
Thank you for reading. Love to all.
Hello MillieMoo5
I am Brian one of the Community Champions here at Macmillan. I have just noticed your post has gone unanswered. I can't answer it myself as I have a different cancer but by me replying it will be "bumped up" to the top of the page and I hope seen and replied to by other members of the stomach cancer group.
I do hope you get some answers to your questions and wish dad well on his journey.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi, I’m sorry to hear your dad is suffering so much, I was 60 when I had my FLOT and surgery, I think I must have been very lucky as I copped really well with the chemo but it didn’t really do much in the way of shrinking the tumour, so don’t give up, hopefully he will feel better after surgery, it’s a long road but I’m 2 years post sub total gastrectomy, love and hugs xx
Thank you Brian, very much appreciated. He actually ended up being taken into hospital yesterday, they’ve changed his meds around and he’s been a lot better today so
best wishes
Hi I’m glad to hear you’re doing well post surgery. It’s good to hear positive stories, thanks for sharing. He actually ended up being taken into hospital yesterday, they’ve changed his meds around and he’s been a lot better today so I’m hoping that will make a difference now and he can have his third chemo later this week.
Hi, use this forum as much as you need, everyone will be supportive, pleased to hear he’s feeling a little better today x
Hello MillieMoo5
Happy to help and so pleased to hear there's been an improvement. Sometimes it's just juggling the medication to get it right.
I wish you both well and hope he continues to improve. As Sop said in their post - use the group for support - if you have cancer - whatever the cancer we have a bond and we understand.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi I had eight doses of Flot chemotherapy four before the surgery followed by four after three years ago for my stomach cancer. I suffered minor issues with the first series, but worse side affects with the last four. When I asked questions about this I was told that this was very possible because the treatment following the the operation I was in a weakened state health wish and the make up of the chemo was slightly different i.e stronger. I like others lost 20 kg plus which I have now regained back. I also visited local support groups were I met people with the same condition and found great encouragement and help. I tried to get as fit as l could to help in the recovery process. I still have the odd day were I'm not at my best but they are few and far between.
