Hi, has anyone been diagnosed with this type of cancer cell that can offer any support

thank you

  • I was diagnosed with Signet Ring Cell Carcenoma five years ago.  The treatment was chemotherapy and then surgery.  The tumour was at the lower end of my stomach so it was a partial gastrectomy.  I am not sure if it’s the same as your diagnosis.  Others on this group have had Signet Ring Cell and had the same treatment.  I did panic when I was told, as it’s a rare but aggressive cancer but…The chemo eradicated the cancer in my case and so it responded well to treatment.
If I can help do message me or post on this group.
    Hope that helps!

Life is what happens when you are making other plans!

  • Hi, thanks for replying, my tumour is at the bottom of my stomach, the pylorus. A partial gastroscopy is planned after 4 rounds of FLOT and then more chemo.
It was a shock because I hadn’t been told and it wasn’t explained to me, I saw it in a letter

You have helped me think differently to earlier in the day so thank you  x

  • I was diagnosed in May 2021  with this type of tumour in the bottom half of my stomach. I had 4 cycles of flot followed by partial gastrectomy then another 4 cycles of flot. Treatment finished March 2022. My surgery was keyhole and I recovered very well. More or less back to normal. I have a bit of neuropathy in my hands and feet from the chemo but apart from that all is well and I am so thankful for the treatment that I received. You have got this!! Good luck with everything.

  • Thank you, this is really helpful, hope you stay well x

  • Good morning,

May I ask what your symptoms were that led to your diagnosis please?

    thanks

  • Hi

To be honest I didn't have any symptoms when I was diagnosed.  It was discovered that I was anaemic during routine blood tests for diabetes.  I was then red flagged to a gastroenterologist and was discovered a few months later after having an endoscopy.

  • Hi,

These were my initial symptoms, it took me numerous visits to the GP before I got referred for an endoscopy.

All symptomatic signs, but for months the GPs didn’t link them together even when my infection markers on my blood tests were raised on two occasions.

I was losing weight and found that I couldn’t digest certain foods like bread, acid reflux increased even though I was taking 2 x 20 mg omeprazole a day. I found that even a small amount of alcohol made me dizzy. I became very tired for no apparent reason. I also had a lot of wind that I couldn’t get rid of.

Happy to answer any further questions you might have x

  • Hi I was diagnosed in July this year , However I had symptoms , ie discomfort and bloating under ribs which I put down to Gerd which I have been on meds for for years and just ignored it . I went to my docs in May when I noticed my stools had turned very dark.He suspected a stomach ulcer and scheduled endoscopies and scans , they found and started treating me for an ulcer but the biopsy was inconclusive so they done more scans and endoscopies and it was down hill from there when a scan detected peritoneal nodes with no primary detected which led to more scans biopsies and endoscopies which  finally found a Gist which was blocking the pyloric, from there I had a stent fitted and I am now starting my second round (of five)  of chemo and immunotherapy ...my cancer is both inoperable and incurable ...bummer

  • Thank you all for your quick response and I am sorry you have all had/ having to go through this.

i have been on a quest since June trying to find out what’s going on with me. So far I have had abdo and pelvic CT, colonoscopy. Waiting on date for endoscopy.

sadly it has been such a battle to get where I am with the GP writing my symptoms off as stress.

    symptoms

    - sudden on-set reflux (having to take several tabs a day)

    - nausea/vommiting

    - looser stools (I have had bloody stools)

    - rapid weight loss

fingers crossed I get some answers soon.

    thanks again

    Natalie

  • That GP sounds clueless. Hopefully you get the endoscopy soon.
