Hello everyone new to the site and first post. My husband had a CT scan in November 2023 due to not eating and weight loss. The CT came back that he had a mass at the top of his stomach and further deposits in his stomach. Sent for an endoscopy at beginning of Dec and when we arrived kept waiting for a couple of hours and the Dr took us into a room and asked if we really wanted this doing as the CT scan said it all and that he was 'riddled' and that no point putting himself through this procedure. We were extremely upset so went home and digested the info that there was no hope. We then got an appointment for the hospital early January where they did bloods, biopsy and yes and endoscopy. The results from the endoscopy came back as negative for any cancer and that it is a stomach ulcer, the other results not back yet and we don't have appointment for another three weeks. We are at a total loss and stressed out- does he have stomach cancer or doesn't he - has anyone else had differing results from the tests?
I am so sorry to hear about this diagnosis. It is what you feared and your worst nightmare! Hopefully there will be a treatment plan and the cancer is incurable but treatable. Others have had positive outcomes after a very poor prognosis so hang in there.
Do reach out to MacMillan or a Maggie’s Centre if you have one near you. It’s such a devastating blow and getting support is so important.
Take care!
Jac
Hello, What a good outcome = Stomach Ulcer. It is so difficult to try and understand just what the investigations are all about, Blood tests, Scans etc; but the Specialists are being thorough and it does take time. Time and waiting is so hard. Like you I had all the tests but was found to have inoperable Stomach GIST which had also spread outside the Stomach. So with a Target drug and the hope that it might shrink and slow the Tumour. It hasn't and now I have to manage what time I have remaining - this includes planning for great times which may not happen. Put behind you the worry of the early days and keep well and I hope you will be doing Cartwheels in the near future!!
So Sorry to hear this Bowling Stone not the outcome anyone wants. We are just starting our journey after my husband found out he has a tumour in his stomach and deposits in his omentum we are back in a weeks time for a discussion on treatment plan. Looks like it will be chemotherapy on a palliative care plan. Hopefully it will shrink the tumour etc and we get a longer length of time together to do the things we planned to do with our family and grandaughters.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
