Hello all,
Im coming to the last few days of my 3 week free fluid diet post total gastrectomy.
I have been given fortisips and told to drink minimum 2, ideally 3 a day to help slow down weight loss.
Things were okay but the last few days the fortisips cause me to feel nauseous, light headed and tired really quickly. Im drinking it over 30 minutes and have been trying to take it slower since this started happening but the problem starts before I've even finished drinking it.
Im hoping when I move to soft food diet on Saturday and progress further I wont need to rely so much on protein drinks. Is this what people have found?
Has anyone else has a bad experience with fortisip? Are there other protein drinks anyone can recommend?
I saw this on FB, which says it has no sugar, but scared to try random new things at this early stage.
Any advice would be really appreciated. Im starting to worry how I'm ever meant to lead a normal life and work if all I do is try to eat and drink during the day whilst feeling rough afterwards
Hi
Have you spoken to your dietitian or specialist nurse, I would talk to them first.
I had Ensure drinks which I found tasted better than fortisip but these might have the same effects.
I hope you start to feel better soon, hopefully when you start eating soft foods, I did quite a lot of prep and froze small portions.
Thanks Sop. I messaged my dietician yesterday on the Marsden App but they've not yet responded.
Yes, hopefully soft food will be easier.
Please ask any questions you have, lots of people on here will share their experiences, it’s too early for you to think about work etc, you will get there, just take your time, take care
My husband couldn’t / wouldn’t drink those drinks, I did read somewhere of people mixing with food, cereal and things like that maybe something to think about when you start eating. You will get there but it’s baby steps one day at a time hugs x
Are you making your own shakes? We find the milk being used matters, read the labels as some have way more sugar than others. Not all milk is the same in regard to sugar content. Also, i don't know if it helps but our doctor suggested go slim as a shake. It's normally a meal replacement for people who want to lose weight but if added to your normal routine as an extra intake you'll get some good vitamins and minerals. Seems to help my husbands sugar level not spike. Good luck
Hi TRE423,
I've been using whole milk from Sainsbury's or Waitrose to make banana smoothie.
Thank you for the advice. I'll check the sugar content.
Do you mean other priloducts such as Cravendale for instance?
Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean as slim as a shake. Do you mean like adding powdered protein to the shake? Sorry if I'm being dense
