You're doing the right thing with keeping your fitness level up. It's going to be a long journey with the treatment's and tests then hopefully surgery. I had operation nearly three years ago it took me a while to fully recover, but I kept a positive attitude that I was going to do to get through it. It's hard but with the support of friends and family I now lead a fairly normal life doing things I want to do when I want to do them. I have the occasional rough day but it's not very often. Stay positive and you will be Ok.
