My wife has been diagnosed with a form of stomach cancer. She was admitted to hospital on 21st June after visiting her GP. After having endoscopy and biopsy procedure then another procedure to have a stent fitted to allow her to eat solid food she was discharged on the 2nd July. My wife has been told the cancer is treatable but she has months rather than years to live. I find it strange that everything takes so long to get a prognosis. Is this normally the case ?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm very sorry to read that your wife has recently discovered that she has stomach cancer which has already spread to other areas of her body. This must be a very difficult time for you both.

I'm not a member of this group, so don't know what the normal length of time for a prognosis is with this type of cancer, but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be easier for the other group members to see.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could pop something about your wife's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
