So after quite a lengthy period of bowts of stomach pain and taking medication a different doctor at my surgery sugested i stop the medication in case it was masking something, and unfortunately the pain returned so i was sent for an endoscopy which was done by a surgeon who knew right away that i had stomach cancer, biopsies were taken and i was sent for a CT scan. An mdt meeting was held and i was informed of the outcome, I had Arenocarcinoma cancer (T3 N1 M x) The M could not be determined as there was an indeterminate left lower lobe pulminary micro nodule that was to be monitored
I now have a staging Laproscopy in two days time which will determine which route of treatment i go down. The hope is that the cancer has not spread into the fluids around my stomach which will mean i go on to a course of chemo 4 x 2 weekly followed by a Gastrectomy and then more chemotherapy with a view to a cure.
I have to say how impressed i am with the speed at which things have gone so far and i am also staying positive with the journey ahead. For information i am a 62 year old male normally fit and well with fantastic support from my wife and best friend Jo.
It is such a hard journey. I feel I quitting. We will get through this. X
Hi sorry it's been a while. In all honesty sometimes I just want to get on and forget about this saga but there's no running away! Im now four months post op and after 2.5 months thought I was done with dumping syndrome BUT no its back. I also feel so bloody tired and they gave me iron but im still tired. Im back at work but work and rest is all I can do on those days. My doctor put me on vitamin B12 tablets!!!! BUT they are sublingual as she said they are absorbed in the mouth? I did feel a bit more energetic but its a lot of ups and downs. I genuinely thought id be fully recovered and eating is not pleasant. im hungry and after three or four spoonfuls the novelty wears off and the discomfort starts. my abdomen has also recently become tight as a drum and paranoia sets in and I think of all sorts of things thank god apart from here I don't share those fears.Plus I feel a bit mentally dull, not that I was that riveting to begin with but jay's now I can't even think of a word. I am eating larger portions though and I force myself to eat all day just to maintain weight so I don't look more like a skeleton. I realise people have much more challenging times and I do feel grateful to have a successful operation but I do wonder if eating will get better and not be so unpleasant?
well that's absolute crap for you. I really hope now you are home that recovery will be more smooth. I think we have to embrace the good things like how you had a successful operation and seriously how they think chemo onto of post op gastrectomy would be a good idea? I still feel sick just eating. its comforting that others have proceeded with chemo but they also have had to have adjustments so try not to focus on the next treatment go to your appointment and ask them "How can you prevent my last reaction recurring?" Ask them what their plan is and get them fully on board and prepared to be very vigilant to prevent any more unpleasant surprises!
Dad starts post op chemo on Monday, it was meant to be yesterday but we received a text the day before informing us the dr didn’t complete the necessary paperwork so wouldn’t be able to go ahead. Muhas just gone for her three monthly scan this evening for her small cell lung cancer
MillyE, my husband and most people I’ve heard about have B 12 injections every 3 months, we was told there better than the tablets also you may need iron tablets. My husband knows it a few weeks before the 3 months is up, not much energy, he’s also low in iron that makes you tired as well, he can’t have iron tablets yet as he’s been tested for something else at the moment. He had all his stomach out in Jan. Good luck and try for the injection xx
Hi my eating after surgery got better. But since starting chemo I can’t eat and have that fullness feeling after few bites. My surgeon told me not take B13 tablets. He said have injection as they are better. Maybe speak to your doctor and see if they give you injections?
if you find any solution to dumping syndrom please do share. I am trying green tea which does help.
