I have stage 4 stomach cancer it as not spread anywere
Started Flot chemo on my 3rd treatment Monday
It as been brutal they are going to have to adjust the dose
I was wiped out for 9 days lost most of my hair on the 2nd treatment
I am a very strong person but I have never felt so ill in my life
Plus the bone marrow injections have not been good aswell had to ring The help.line for advice
I'm frightened to have my 3rd treatment but know I need to do it to save my life
As anyone else felt so bad on this Flot treatment
Hi Vida, stick with it, be brave and keep walking forwards !
The post op FLOT is the toughest thing I have ever done in my entire life. I remember sitting in bed in tears after Round 1 of the post op cycles, in tears saying to my Wife that I didn’t know how I could do another 3 of them. She told me I had to keep walking forwards to have the best shot at recovery and to be around for her and my kids.
I’m here 5 months later, cancer free and completely back to normal, you just have to take each round one at a time and get through it Vida - you can do it !
Happy to help Vida and you’re doing so well, keep going and stick at it, you can do it.
Just remember, when you are feeling rough from it that it’s the power of the treatment and that’s a good thing … it’s taking out all the bad cells and you just have to ride it out.
You’ve got this !
You really can … and it is so important to stay positive, it really does make a difference - even my surgeon told me this.
Just remember in those tough moments that it’s the treatment going to work making you feel poorly and that there is light at the end of the tunnel, you will get through it and you will feel normal again.
5+ months down the line from finishing my post op chemo, that felt like it was poisoning me from the inside out, making me sick so much everyday that I felt like I was turning myself inside out, made all my beard, eyelashes etc fall out … it’s all over, my beard is back, I feel normal which seemed a million miles when I was in the midst of those cycles.
Stay positive and get it done PJR, we are all cheering you on
Hi Tracy
FLOT is a challenge, that's for sure it's been tough for me that's for sure.
I would suggest you start new hobbies and if you're feeling down and teary, get up, walk to another place, do something, make a cuppa, pick up a book, call someone, go into the garden....etc
i am halfway through third cycle of FLOT, my 4th cycle is in 5 days time. i have all the classic side effects tiredness, lethargy, rash, occasional headaches and occasional nausea. I treat it as a chalenge something I have to beat and destroy and I'm determined to do it. I'm sure you are. Well, we were born to overcome these things weren't we? Sometimes, it'll feel really overwhelming but as soon as you know it you are coming out of the worse of it and it's ok!
I'd try some new hobbies and treat yourself contact people more often than you would normally. And contact to old friends say hello.
Always ask the nurses and doctors about your treatment, medications, progress. It helps when they reassure you or confirm things. Do not be shy in calling the help numbers.
Very very best wishes Tracy
Joe
Thankyou Joe
More ready for cycle 3 tomorrow
I've got this
I have labradors which I can still walk now and again
Just finished a book
I think because I was always working I work at the hospital on the wards I see it from both sides
Plus I like to be in control and this horrible disease as taken over my life and my family's
I am so active but not now
Sounds silly but losing my lovely long hair hit me hard
On a positive note this flot treatment is killing it
Good luck with your 4th cycle
I'm ready for surgery now want it out
Take care
Tracy
Hello Tracy.
Remain calm and focused. It is hard to go through what you are going through. I had the same treatment last year. After 3rd dose, I was wiped out for almost 3 weeks, so it got delayed, but eventually, I managed to get through all six sessions. After the OP I was due for six more, but I was so weak, I only managed 3. I am still in recovery, but hey, I feel a lot better now the Chemo is over, and that annoying FLOT, I called it a bomb haha well it looked like one. With the silly balloon inside it. I am sure you will be fine. You are stronger than you think. Hope that helps you, if not, just speak to your leading specialist nurse or the Chemo team. One thing I do have still, is that touching cold items, like a can of drink from the fridge, feels like frost bite, I have to use gloves. It will pass eventually they said. Keep positive, have faith, and you will kick it in the rear/
