Suspected sarcoma in forearm

Hi all

My husband has a 3cm lump in his forearm (tender, moveable, not fully hard to touch, with own bloody supply). The lump grew initially but has not grow for the last few weeks, in fact he thinks the lump might’ve got smaller (perhaps this is just some swelling which has gone down). His ultrasound results noted the lump was indeterminate and his GP has now referred him to surgical oncology for a consult. He has no other symptoms. She mentioned that the appointment should take place within two weeks.

I am wondering if anyone had similar symptoms and if so, what the diagnosis was. It would also be helpful to hear what the likely next steps would be - is a biopsy/surgery likely straightaway or can we expect more scans first? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

  • Hi

A warm welcome to our community though sorry to head about what you are going through.

Lunmps, bumps and swellings are really common and sarcomas rare, however it is important to rule out sarcoma to be on the safe side.

We have a lot of information of diagnosis of soft tissue sarcoma you can read here

Glad your husband went to see the GP and this is being taken seriously, hopefully it is not sarcoma but even if it is he is on just the right path and that is great.

    <<hugs>>

  • Hi. Before the lump what were his symptoms in his arm please ? My relative started with a shooting pain in her leg which was a tumour. She’s now started with a flashing pain in her upper arm

  • Hiya. No other symptoms whatsoever, just a lump.

  • Hi,

I have a really similar thing, ultrasound was inconclusive, so waiting 8weeks to monitor. Do you mind if I ask what happened in your husband’s case?

  • It’s my daughter in law and sadly it has spread to her lungs as that is common with sarcoma. She wished she’d not had a biopsy as there is research across the world like don’t poke the bear. The nhs will want that but some people go down an intensive natural route

  • Sorry to hear that, hope she is coping ok.

  • Hi GS23, hope all is ok with your husband. I have a very similar lump, what happened in your case. Hope all was ok. Kind regards

  • Hi, I’m sorry to hear that. My husband had an MRI scheduled straight after the inconclusive USS it then went to MDT and he was booked in for a biopsy. The biopsy came back that it was benign! So fingers crossed for you - it can feel so overwhelming but remember in most cases it isn’t cancer (we were convinced it was in my husbands case as his symptoms were spot on for a sarcoma). All the best.
