Hi everyone, I have had a lump in my leg left for quite some time. I went to the gp and she did full bloods and referred me for an ultrasound. The next day she called and said there was high calcium levels in my blood results and high white blood cells. She referred me for an emergency appointment at another hospital for further tests. I had the ultrasound and she rang me the next day to say that there is a blood supply to the lump and so hopefully my appointment in the other hospital will consist of an MRI/biopsy. So I went to the next appointment, the first doctor I seen was concerned and went through my ultrasound with me and showed me the blood supply etc and put me straight through for a biopsy. So led on a bed and another doctor comes in to do the biopsy. He was quite dismissive and said people always come in for these small things and he wouldn't be worried unless there was a blood supply so I corrected him and so he did another ultrasound and confirmed it himself but just dismissed it and said he wouldn't take a biopsy without an MRI, so would put me on the waiting list for one. If it was urgent enough to put me straight through for a biopsy why am I having to wait for the MRI? I am going out of my mind with worry and now I worry that this appointment will be weeks away. I'm not sleeping and it is distracting me at work and home. I tried to contact my gp but the reception said I need an appointment. Any advise, experiences would be great!
Hi MaggieDoodle welcome to the group, but sorry you find yourself here. I don't know why the doctor wouldn't do the biopsy as you were expecting him too. I would of been really annoyed if it was me. I think that as you were fast tracked to the hospital for the biopsy, then you wont have to wait too long for the MRI.
I would get straight back onto the GP receptionist, tell her you need a telephone appointment with the GP so he can chase this MRI. You could also tell the GP how stressed and anxious this is making you, and that you are not sleeping.
This group is great to talk to other people who have gone through a similar situation to yourself, but you can also call the Macmillan support line for support and advice. They are available 7 days a week from 8am til 8pm on 0808 808 00 00.
Wishing you all the best. Please let us know how you get on.
Hi Chelle,
Thank you for your reply. I am hoping that is the case that as it was an urgent referral they won't make me wait for the MRI but he was quite dismissive so I don't know if he put it through as urgent or if because I was put to them as urgent it will be anyway. I will call my surgery tomorrow and ask again for my GP to call as I really can't keep waiting for a letter in the post or a phone call that doesn't come.
I will update as soon as I know more but the wait is very difficult.
