hi everyone
it's 5 week today since I had my biopsy taken
I don't really know what to think anymore, my husband says what else can it be other then cancer for it to take this long.
I spoke (again) to the oncology team and we've still not got the full results, just part and without a full picture they won't divulge diagnosis. We were advised that the initial biopsy results came back which highlighted the need for further tests again and again. Standard turn around is 10 days but each line of testing adds more and more time. The head of service is chasing on our behalf now. The oncology team seem as embarrassed as we are upset but to be fair it's not the hospital's fault, that said it doesn't help with the 5 weeks of waiting. A light of hope is that whatever it is they'll certainly know for sure and I've been assured that if any further scans are required they'll take place the same time as my next consultant meet.
I received a letter from Birmingham hospital two weeks ago to say that the consultant and the radiologist suspect it to be Myxoid sarcoma from looking at my MRI scan this is why they asked for the biopsy.
any advice would be appreciated thanks in advance
Hi T071
I am encouraged to hear you are in touch with what is happening and that people are working together.
It took a very long time until they came up with my wife's diagnosis of Leiomyosarcoma but one plus in the equation was that the cancer was low grade - i.e. slow growing and even when we did get a diagnosis initially the decision was to go for watch-and-wait; just fairly frequent scans and appointments.
Eventually the oncologist decided to try chemotherapy; the first she only got first way through as it was fairly effective in knocking back the cancer but unfortunately caused a collapsed lung - still that was fixable.
Later she tried a gentler option and it seems to have caused the cancer to go to sleep - well that and the hormone treatment anyway. She has not been stable for about 6 years and the oncology team now only normal call for an appointment every year.
Waiting is not fun.
<<hugs>>
Steve
