After five years of pain, distress and GP appts  my daughter was diagnosed this morning with a gastric tumour. She’s having a PET scan ASAP, and chemo will be started once results are in. She has suffered so much along with her undiagnosed IBD. I’m really frightened that the tumour/s have been neglected for so long that it her future care will be palliative. We are devastated, but I need to hold it together for my 18 year old granddaughter
I would really appreciate hearing from other folks who have  had similar experiences.

kind regards

  • Hi @lindylou115 and welcome to our community though sorry to hear about your daughter.

My wife's diagnosis is slightly different being Leiomyosarcoma but her route to diagnosis was extremely hard and in some ways the actual diagnosis came as something of a relief in that at least we had something to work on.

My wife's cancer is not curable but with two different lots of chemotherapy they have managed to render the cancer stable, we have now been their for about 6 years and with some support we are now living with cancer. Get to see the oncology team about once every 9 months and they are really pleased with her.

One thing I needed to learn with my wife was that I needed to look after myself too, our son is 16 and has high functioning autism so it really does not help it I make myself ill. I did a living with less stress course and that really helped me in learning mindfulness and conscious breathing exercises. It might help to look at some of the information on  Looking after someone with cancer
