Life after cancer, scans & chances of recurrence

Hi everyone & thanks for your positive responses to me so far!

Just wondered if anyone can identify with me as I’ve had 3 post treatment scans & get very stressed, on a go slow over that time of waiting for results. It’s not deliberate. Can be quite debilitating.

Ive read that sarcomas can grow very fast & my oncologist told me to just wait & see re results for the future.
Does anyone else find it hard to get back up to pre op levels of activity in spite of good clear results so far? It’s not easy to help family to understand that at times cancer after treatment still takes up a big part of my life & that is different to the previous me.

I have no idea how likely a recurrence could be?

This is just a first little push out into this group: I hope to find some response?

Thanks

  • Hi ,

your concern is really very usual as you will see if you look through our pages on after treatment.

One thing is that with continued monitoring it is very likely if there were a recurrence it would be picked up really early - and that does really make treatment more straightforward. My wife's cancer is never going away, but has been remarkably stable now for over six years. It took some time for us to get to living with cancer but now it is just a minor detail of the occasional scan as she is in remarkably good shape, indeed her health seems to attract real attention from the oncology team.

If you need a boost come on here any time, someone is always listening and we all understand the delights of what some call scanxiety.

    <<hugs>>
