Hi I had surgery 21/11:19 to remove lump from back , didn’t find out until 17/1/2020 that it was liposarcoma, after MDT meeting 10/2/2020 told it’s high grade 3 with no clear margins, surgery booked for 5/3/2020 followed by 6 weeks radiotherapy when healed . Is this wait from 1st operation to 2 nd nearly 4 months normal
Hi
Waiting to start treatment is always an anxious time and I can completely understand why your worrying about the length of time it's been between when your lump was removed and the start of the treatment.
I don't know what the normal timescale is for liposarcoma, as I had a different type of cancer, but if you click on this link you can read about cancer waiting times from Cancer Research. It says that the current target for treatment to begin after your treatment plan has been discussed with your doctor is no more than 31 days. Although you haven't said when you saw your doctor after the MDT meeting, assuming it was the same day then your treatment is starting 24 days later.
I'm tagging this group's champion src60 as he can probably share his experience with treatment for sarcomas with you.
When you have a minute it would be useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. Hi latchbrook
Thank you for your reply I have edited my profile and put dates throughout my journey . The MDT meeting was 10/2 and I saw the registrar on 18/2 who told me they would operate to try and get clear margins followed by 6 weeks of radiotherapy. She booked my operation for 5/3 but on Thursday the consultant secretary phoned to say it was 12/3 and nothing in the diary for 5/3 naturally I was upset to be told different , they didn’t even have me down as latex allergy despite me telling the registrar and the nurse doing the pre op assessment. Waiting on a call now after she has spoken to consultant re date ,
It's always upsetting to discover that an operation or appointment has been put back but, even if they can't honour the original date, please be reassured it wouldn't be altered it if they felt it wasn't safe to do so.
I hope that the consultant's secretary rings with good news that the original date is still possible and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks very much for updating your profile and do let us know how your operation and radiotherapy goes.
Sending a virtual ((hug))
