Hi, i have diagnosed with pleomorphic sarcoma this week & i feel really scared . I am joining this group for support. I developed a spot on my forearm over a year ago which grew into a small mass. I showed my gp in sept. Although they thought it was benign, they referred me to the dermatologist.  I saw the dermatologist in dec & they recognised that the lump was a malignant tumour. They removed it completely on christmas eve but the biopsy results have come back this week showing i have sarcoma. I waiting to be seen by the specialists at the local specialist hospital . I am trying to stay positive but info online can be so negative .

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community and I'm very sorry to hear that you have recently been diagnosed with pleomorphic sarcoma.

I'm not going to pretend that I know anything about this type of cancer but I do know how frightening it is when you're first diagnosed. Like you I went online looking to find things about the melanoma that I had been diagnosed with to make me feel better. Instead I just read horror stories where everything was doom and gloom until I stumbled across this site and spoke to people who'd been there and got the t-shirt.

What you need to remember about google is that generally people only post about the worse-case scenarios and instead of feeling better you just feel more scared. Treatments are improving all the time and it's likely that a lot of what you read is out of date.

You might find this article on coping while waiting for tests helpful to have a quick look through. Have you been assigned a cancer nurse specialist (CNS) as she should be able to give you up to date information on what is going to happen? Once you know what the treatment will be you'll hopefully feel a lot better. It's the not knowing that a lot of us struggle with.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Sending a supportive (((hug)))
