Hi all recently diagnosed with a high grade sarcoma on my left thigh, due to start 5 weeks of radiotherapy July with the idea of shrinking the tumour away from the nerve with an operation to follow after the skin has healed. Anyone else been through or going through this ? Any help and advice greatly received.
Hi Wolves1974 and welcome to the online community
I don't have any experience with myxoid liposarcoma but I noticed that your post had gone unanswered. By replying it will bump it back to the top of the page where hopefully it'll be seen by someone with the right experience.
If you type 'myxoid liposarcoma' into the search facility in this group you will find a number of previous posts mentioning this. You could then respond to any threads that you feel are relevant.
I have also found this information for you about radiotherapy for soft tissue sarcomas. You could also post any questions you have about radiotherapy in ask about radiotherapy and questions about the follow up operation in ask a nurse. Both radiographer Kate and the cancer specialist nurse will aim to reply within 2 working days.
When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi, I have only just joined this Forum so have only just seen your post. I too have been diagnosed with a high grade sarcoma, It is on my right thigh and I was diagnosed in August. I have just completed 5 weeks radiotherapy and an operation is planned for early December. I suppose you have completed your radiotherapy now? Have you had your operation? I found the radiotherapy made the thigh a bit more painful. I can't think of any tips in particular, although I did find sparkling water and ginger tea helped with the mild nausea that I got from the radiotherapy. Have you got any help and advice for me? I live near Bristol and have found the services provided by the Penny Brohn centre helpful.
Afternoon, Thanks for posting yes I have had my operation on September 20th was in hospital for 5 days was looked after brilliantly by all the hospital staff they couldn't do enough for me.
I found with the Radiotherapy tiredness was my only side affect but after a snooze felt fine, applying E45 twice a day did help although after treatment had finished my thigh went really sore which was to be expected.
After letting the skin heel for 4 weeks I had my op which was a success the surgeon removed all the tumour a massive relief. So 6 weeks on I'm doing physio to strengthen my thigh which is still quite numb but I'm back walking around and getting back to some normality after a long tough at times road.
Anytime you need any advice give me shout having gone through it I know how it feels Im here to help.
You will be fine.
Cheers Karl.
Hello Karl,
Thanks so much for your response. My thigh has been more sore since the radiotherapy finished too. My operation is scheduled for Dec 4th and I am feeling a little apprehensive. Thanks for your offer of advice. I dont know any other sarcoma patients so have felt quite isolated. Hope your rehabilitation continues well.
All the best
Michelle
Hi Michelle,
No problems I bumped into a couple of people whilst having my Radiotherapy seems it's a familiar pattern soreness after treatment then the skin heals quite quickly then the operation. The surgeons are magnificent so try not to feel apprehensive. You will be back on your feet in no time.
Best of luck
Karl.
Hiya,
Just going through some previous posts. How's it going and have you had your operation you said was planned for early December ?
Karl.
what is radiotherapy? Is that radiation? my docs are saying I should have daily radiation to shrink the sarcoma then they do a surgery. how is it administered? needle? ray?
