Waiting for MOHs for 13 months

Hey, last October I was diagnosed with BCC on my forehead, it’s been 13 months and I’m still waiting for MOHs, they think I’ll be offered surgery for Feb.

I totally understand it’s a milder form of cancer but it’s at the point it’s hurting, I have a tingly feeling on a significant chunk of my face, weeping sore etc. my DR says it’s all indicators that the cancer is growing, but the wait list is the wait list.

Its frustrating and scary. Has anyone else dealt with the tingly feeling and sharp pains? I know I’m panicking but I’m worried I’m one of the tiny minority where it spreads to bone.

  • Hi im sorry to hear youve been waiting a while for mohs surgery. I can empathise with you. The waiting time seems to be so long. I also had an infilitrative bcc on my face, which i had mohs surgery in june. All is healing well, i also felt a tingling sensation and like a sharp pain in my cheek. I could not wait as i felt so anxious and i paid privately for mohs. I too would still be waiting. What type of bcc have you been diagnosed with.

Hope you get sorted soon.take care

  • Thank you for replying, it’s good to know you are healing well.
I researched going private last week and the earliest I could get surgery was January so it didn’t seem worth it to pay to get in a month quicker.
I also have infiltrive bcc. I’m glad to know I’m not alone with the pain!

  • Hi where abouts are you ,if you wanted to try my consultant he may see u quicker, he booked me in within 1 week, he does mohs at all different clinics and hospitals.

Have they said how big yours is, i was shocked with mine,,it had grown lots.

    Take care

  • I’m in the East Midlands. If you are anywhere close by I’d love the recommendation.
I was biopsied 6 weeks from the lesion appearing on my face. I was on it as we have a family history.
they took a 5p size biopsy and still didn’t get it all. Which they thought they might do as I was so early.
im getting new sores around the edges of my biopsy scar, and have tingling all over that side of my forehead, my temple and my cheek bone.
But no evidence of how big it is now.
I has a phone consultation with my surgeon / dr a couple of weeks ago. All he could tell me was it sounds like it’s spreading but they don’t know more till surgery time.
    very frustrating and scary

    • I am in lancashire, but theres a link ..i will send you when i get it.

Mine was also tingling and got like a sharp pain in my face. I was shocked, resulted in 20 stitches in my face ( mohs surgery) it was much bigger than expected. Also infilitrative..

    I understand how you feel

  • Hi there just seen your post.  There are two MOHS  surgeons in the East Midlands.  Both of these are at Queens.  It was so much quicker for me to have mine done privately though it was horribly expensive at £5000….    Mine was large and infiltrating, but it was still a 10 month wait two years ago in the NHS.

  • Hi Mandy123

Can i ask after mohs surgery how long did you massage the scar for and did it fade over time.

My bcc was large too and infilitrative.

  • Hi, my wound was 4.5 cm x 4 cms. Forehead/scalp .  Permanent loss of large area of hair.   No one told me to massage it so so did not.attempt to do so.  The graft started failing after about  10 days and it would not have been possible to massage it for months as it was a long time until completely healed.  The scar is amazing now as almost the same as forehead and scalp colour.  It has a dip which is noticeable and was not mentioned to me before the op.  You are welcome to ask anything as for me it has been a very tough experience to get through.  It is not vanity to be upset as our faces are part of our identity.  A lack of understanding about this by some people makes the experience harder and more painful emotionally.

  • Hi..It sounds like youve had alot to get through too, i was so shocked my bcc was 20mm x14mm, on my face, i didnt have a skin graft, a linear closure, so 20 stitches on my cheek.  I had no idea it was a skin cancer,

The scar is fading and healing well.

When did you have surgery?  I agree its not vanity but its not been eady seeing such a big scar on my face every day..its hard emotionally and i think you will understand . Thank you for understanding.

Ive not known anyone to have mohs so it helps.

    Take care

  • Another friend had a big wound (gash from corner of left eye to bottom of nose in straight line downwards  from an excision and it has been amazing how you literally cannot see it now. Suppose with excision they try and get clear margins so they do not have to do another operation so they tend to make a bigger cut.
