I am really struggling with dealing with the anxiety and waiting, having seen two MOHS surgeons this week who both painted a truly grim picture of what I face. Despite them both saying I should be a priority case (one nhs, one private), neither can give me a date as they are so fully booked. I am on the NHS list and the surgeon was very sympathetic and said she would try and 'fit me in'. I would be grateful to find someone on this forum who has faced this and got through it. I'm finding it hard to work and concentrate, feel totally in limbo, can't plan the future, can't accept work comissions and am being a burden on my family and friends. I also find that because it's my face, it's the first thing anyone says to me when they see me, so it's the only topic of conversation. One friend actually shouted across a car park yesterday 'how was your visit to the MOHS surgeon? The NHS system is so complicated (multiple departments involved) that there's no particular person managing my care and I just have to wait to be contacted by 'the MOHS coordinator'. I would be really grateful to find someone to talk to.
Hi Gord926354 and a very warm welcome to our corner of the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I haven't had Mohs surgery, my BCC was removed by excision, but I can understand why you'd want to talk to others who have had this procedure on their face.
There are lots of people in the group who've had Mohs surgery and if you click here it will take you to their posts. The most recent person who's posted about their experience of this procedure on their face is Cockerpoo67 so I've 'tagged' them into my reply to you and hopefully they'll pop on and share their experience.
Sending virtual ((hugs))
Hi
I totally understand how frustrating you must feel. I think i advised on a previous post i had mohs surgery on my face in june this year. My anxiety was really bad with it all.
If you would like to speak privately i dont mind, and will offer any advice. I think you have to reqest as a friend.
How big is your bcc, like you im so conscious with it being on my face. But mohs waa thevcorrect procedure considering the position on my face.
Take care
Really sorry to hear you are struggling. Early on I didn't know if I would need extensive surgery with a forehead flap so I was quite anxious. Thankfully for me when I saw the mohs specialist he said I wouldn't need one. Such a daunting operation to face over such a long time period.
At least you are on both lists now.. I was told that the mohs would be in January but managed to get onto the surgeons other practice list. I think with yours that would be more difficult. The private practice should be able to give you a date though because they don't have priority lists usually, just first come first served.
Will you have the flap on the same day or with a different surgeon to the excision ?
This is my second bcc and worse than the first so I like so many know that your path might be mine next time, so good luck and I hope you get news soon
Happy to chat as I've had this procedure recently but am in Australia so not dealing with the NHS. Once they book you in, you'll be able to plan things but I needed 5 weeks off work as I couldn't drive.
