Scar tape after BCC excision and flap repair

I am wondering about using some silicon tape to protect my scar from UV whilst it heals fully and also to add some protection when wearing glasses. Has anyone done this and how was it, or should I just use skin coloured microore to pad my nose to wear my glasses. I'm just over 2 weeks post excision.

Any advise or experience would be appreciated.

  • Hi

I didn't use silicon tape myself, however my BCC was on my chest so easy to cover with clothing, but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

  • Thank you, I've decided not to use tape. I googled it to find out a bit more and there can be drawbacks so going to continue as I am. Do you know when you can start putting sun cream onto a scar and flap repair?

  • No sorry, as I didn't have a flap repair. However, I started to put sunscreen on my scars as soon as they had healed.

  • Thank you. I think I'm going to leave it for another week as it's not been 3 weeks yet. Just wear a hat Cowboy

  • Hi Lill. I can’t answer your question as I haven’t had surgery yet but have been told I’ll need flap surgery on my nose and wondering how I’ll get on using glasses. I need them to read and sometimes for (shortish) distance. Can I ask how you got on?

  • I haven't worn my glasses yet as my surgeon was concerned about the pressure on the skin flap while healing. I'm fortunate in that I can still legally drive without wearing them and I've just managed with reading. I've heard that some folk have put a small dressing over area to protect whilst wearing glasses but probably best to ask your surgeon. It maybe that you glasses won't sit over the flap. Hope you get on ok. It is amazing how quickly it heals but patience is needed whilst everything settles down.

    Best wishes

  • That’s really helpful, thank you Lill. I’ll definitely ask my surgeon. Thank you also for the reassurance on the healing. I’ve done quite a bit of research but it’s always good to hear from the horses mouth so to speak :) I hope your recovery continues to go well. Best wishes. Tricia
